Druid Bear Form - DGS Games Bear Form

Sitting on my shelf of umm.. "opportunity" has been this really cool Bear from DGS games that I picked up at Reapercon 2015 at their vendor booth. Anyhow, we have a druid in my D&D group who likes to change into different large animals and creatures, hence why I put him on a large 2x2 inch base. I'll be doing some tabletop figures of each of these if for nothing else than to have some animals painted up for myself, but he can use them at the table to truly represent his character changing forms.

The bear is outstanding. My only critique is that the leaves on the top of the stone seem to be setting on edge rather than laying flat or being in motion.

Thank you! That's actually a broken column (from Secret Weapon), the way I explain it is that the leaves underneath are wet and they stuck together as water will pool a bit in those recessed areas of the column.

 

The fur on the bear is excellent! As a nit pick, the claws of the bear should maybe be highlighted a bit.

Most close up pics I have seen of animal eyes tend to show them as a tawny yellow color to brown...

 

And maybe some very light grey between the shoulders and down the spine ridge if you want that 'Silver-tip' Grizzly look...

Not black with white pupils. The color is actually a light yellow to simulate the druid who has golden yellow eyes, he keeps his eye color as he changes into bear form.

 

I also looked at a lot of grizzly pictures, they normally have very very dark eyes. So I didn't want to leave them black or dark brown all the way through as that'd not read very well. 

 

He's a young druid so he's not a grizzled grizzly yet, no gray hair

 

Also looking at grizzly bear pics last night really showed them having a VERY wide range of colors and combinations of colors from dark dark brown to nearly blonde. Reds in their furs to blacks to grays, so their fur colors are really up for interpretation as there's no one way with them. I liked the dark brown to blonde look of what I saw so I emulated that to the best of my ability with a quick tabletop paint.

 

Overall, I'd say this piece (including the base) took me about 3 1/2 - 4 hours.

I like the many color shades in the fur and the beautifully laid out and painted base.

One thing that might still be done: you could add some finelined but strong highlights on the claws (stronger towards the tip) to have them separated better and look sharper.

The druid wants a few other forms... large dire wolf, large spider, large dire boar, and large toad hahaha!

 

I have a wolf and spider, but need to acquire the toad and boar figures. All of them would also be speed paints at tabletop to tabletop+ level.
