What are heroes without villains to oppose them? Less exciting, that's what! So here is Crosswire, an incredibly jacked brute powered by canisters of some sinister Brute Juice! He doesn't map directly on to any character I know, but combines elements of Bane, Mr. Hyde, some members of the Wrecking Crew, the Rhino, and (due to Drug Powers) maybe the bad robocop from Robocop 2.
I tried to get some minor OSL coming off the Brute Juice canisters and drybrush his many bulgy veins Alien Goo green. He's a very big fellow, in the same weight class as the Clay Golem. (see http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/82054-77170-clay-golem-conversion-plus-59009-female-mad-scientist/ ) Lots and lots of muscles to highlight and wash.
But what we all came here for is of course some wreckage and mayhem!

Well, "Endgame" is almost upon us, and surely there could be no better time to post these! 50107, Afterburn, is a magnificent pulp-era flying armored gadgeteer genius superhero, part Rocketeer and part Iron Man. The color choice was a simple one. Screaming Bell, Greedy Gold, DecoArt Rich Espresso, AP Rough Iron, and some Reaper-sample blue.
The base comes with some billowing vapors, which I augmented with some cotton for additional effect.
And then there's 50080, Zenith. I couldn't resist painting him as my favorite hero, and the dynamism and determination (as well as the almost comically well-defined musculature) made him a natural fit. This was also a good opportunity to get more practice with washes and highlights, to make the bulging muscles pop EVEN MORE.
A small clear plastic round sticker provided a shield. Mostly painted in Reaper sample blue, with shades of AP Dark Sky, Chaotic Red, and True Red. The stars, "A," and wing emblems are in silver. Forgive the many pictures; this sculpt has a lot of detail that needs showing off!
Next up: villains and action scenes!

Here we have a blind bag Marvel 500 figure, series 8 Red Guardian. Why? Mostly just because. Impulse purchase, never seen them before, curiosity driven I suppose. Sure, but why paint it? As it turns out this fig has been a great exercise (thus far) in blending that I am in most need of. Also I have been enjoying the process of basing. Something that I am finding every bit as enjoyable as the figure painting.
At this point I based and initial shaded/highlighted the blue with an airbrush. I used some liquid masking, won't do that again. Tough to remove. Luckily the blue paint withstood the shower and gentle toothbrush scrub that I had to resort to. The lower face area has gotten a little attention. The blues have been getting highlight brush blends. The red and white are still in the basecoat stages. More to come.

For my birthday my husband gave me a collection of classic British TV homage characters from Crooked Dice. On the site this figure is called "Pandora King" and is painted up as a blonde in a grey and vivid red outfit, but when you look at her lines she is pretty clearly supposed to be Diana Rigg in this outfit as Emma Peel from the old show "The Avengers".
I was so enthused about painting her that I got her well started before I took pictures.
I primed her white and washed her with Burnt Umber, then did her skin in complex mixes of Titanium White, Burnt Umber, Burnt Sienna, Raw Sienna, and Red Oxide. I haven't painted her eyes yet.
I also rinsed her hair and outfit over with pure Carbon Black. It's not quite as monochrome as it looks in the photos.
