Question about 77395: Cadirith Demonic Spider

I need some advice from the Bones repositioners/modifiers out there.

 

I currently have Cadirith (with another on the way) that I am planning on modifying in to an Arachnarok Spider for Age of Sigmar.  I've already figured out how to make and attach the Howdah to carry the goblins.  The question I have is the best way to reposition the legs.  They come in 4 sets of two and and are basically either parallel to each other or overlapping.  What would be the best way to get some separation between the legs?  Boil and reposition?  Cut and angle and glue?  My concern with the boiling would be bending the tabs out of position so they wouldn't seat flush anymore.  And for cutting, where?  At the joint where the join the body or at one of the joints on the legs?

 

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  If anyone has trouble understanding my rambling train of thought, I can take some pictures if needed.

I glued mine together first, and then boiled and positioned the legs.

Yeah to what Dixon said.  Maybe attach them first, then boil and reposition.  Though depending on the stance you're aiming for (I imagine some crossing, as though it's on the move), you may want to cut and reattach a few limbs as well.

I boiled first, then assembled. Worked pretty well.

 

Mostly you want to move the front legs forward and the back legs back without bending the tabs, which turned out to be pretty easy.

 

Now if you want to make radical changes to the height of the "feet", that might be trickier. (I was mostly just worried about making things look decent, not getting a specific pose.)

Yeah, I just want to spread the legs out so they don't look like an IC chip.  I wasn't sure if the glue would hold up to the boiling.  I'll give that a try first.  Thanks all for the quick feedback.

I'm going old school - hobby knife, pin vise, rod, and pliers, followed by green stuff.

 

But I am going for a more dynamic pose, and am putting some terrain on the base - inspired by an old plastic model that I had when I was a child.

 

Also in use - fake Hallowe'en cobwebs, a few mashed up styrofoam balls covered with a combination of white glue and gauze, and some cheap plastic skellies.

I'm gonna try my friend's heat gun at shop nite tomorrow to fix my flight of gargoyles and adjust my Cadirith. I'll let you know how it goes.

Oh, none of this has happened... yet. (Well, other than cutting the legs apart, and drilling for the pins.... which is not all that exciting to see.... moving got in the way.)

OMG, heat gun is amazing. I highly recommend it for any wilty bones or for any large bones figures that need subtle reshaping. It's so much easier than boiling and chilling and reboiling and rechilling. I was able to get all my gargoyles to survive a stiff breeze, straighted swords, axes, and polearms, and of course, play around with Cadirith.

 

Unfortunately I can't figure out how to get pictures to upload so you'll just have to use your imaginations.

 

Important note: My Cadirith is not glued so I was able to reposition legs individually after doing so en masse.
