"Edel" and "Weiss"?

I know, right!? He hires two archers, one human and one Elven, and those are their names! What are the odds!? ;-)

Seriously though, I wanted to name the elf something to do with "white" because she has such a pale complexion and color scheme; and then I wanted the two archers to have names that kind of related to each other, so as I went through differnt possibilities I landed on Edel as it sounded like a good human male name. I guess my mind ranges all over the place when I'm trying to make up names. :)

I think they work very well as names, to be honest.

Thanks!

When you first mentioned them, I wanted to be sure you weren't pointing out some faux pas on my part, so I looked up Edel real quick in my German-English dictionary to make sure it didn't have some meaning I didn't know about. (I already knew Weiss was "white"). So it turned out that Edel is the adjective meaning "noble", so it would be a great name for a knight or lord.

No, not a faux pas at all. I thought it was a reference to edelweiss, the alpine flower that tolerates mountain snows.

Inadvertent cleverness, FTW. (Not to mention Sound of Music reference.)

Yes, I intended it to be the word edelweiss broken into two parts, and I knew it was a flower as sung about in Sound of Music. The fact it is known for tolerating mountain snow is a happy accident considering the setting of the game Frostgrave. :)
