Super Work!

Hope these come on the market soon...

(From this post)

Ever since I heard about, and saw these minis, I have lusted for them!

Well, I now have a few, and am starting them this month...

This is the Bodak, and I also am using the Horned Head and Hammer options, even though the original art work from Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth, and MMII show them with an Axe (Bardiche actually IIRC) and no horns.

(And I love Finch's paint job!)

I have a thing for Warhammers, having seen Hank Rheinheart (RIP) of Museum Replicas, do a demonstration with them and maces vs swords at DragonCon back in the '90s...

(The damage to armor, and hence the body wearing the armor,  from a hammer is devastating!)

If (when) I get another one of these, I will use the other options...

Anyway, I cleaned him up, and primed him, cut the tab off, and put in the pins.

I chose another Secret Weapon Base from the Bag O' Crap, and plan to try to do a lava flow effect in the channel....

Going to need to search for lava tuts now....

So here he is in primer....

(Finch, did you assemble then paint, or do it separately?)

Did you get this from the Kickstarter, or is it actually available somewhere now? I can't find it for sale.

Mortal arrow's website has em listed for sale.

Love the texture on the skirt. Nice start!!

So I started base coating him with a couple coats of Scale 75 Petroleum Grey, and his 'skirt' with F&G Eldandil Violet.

I plan on using the same progression through the Scale Black & White set for his skin tones that I have done for other minis recently....

Not much, but a little here, a little there.....

  • 2 weeks later...

Unfortunately, the Violet did NOT work out, so he went swimming in the Simple Green...

Came out, re primed, new base coat of Petroleum Grey, followed by a first highlight with Graphene Grey.

The kilt was started with a few coats of Navy blue...

Hopefully this time things will work a bit better....

Cool. That Petroleum Grey's just the thing.

(Finch, did you assemble then paint, or do it separately?

Attached the hammer before painting. This made painting his skull belt-buckle-thingie a bit trickier but still quite manageable.

So Tonight in the limited time I had, I concentrated on this one.

His skirt got the starting of Highlighting with Cantabric Blue.

His skin got the next level with Rainy Grey.

His Eyes and Teeth with White Alchemy.

His boots with GW Scorched Brown.

The belts with Leather Brown.

His Armor pieces & Hammer head with Black Metal.

And a B&W

One of the reasons I do WiPs is so that the camera can show me my mistakes...

Like on his right eye, for example....

It is also the place for me to record what colors and mixes I have used, because I am to lazy to write some kind of paint Journal.

Not to copy Finch's awesome piece too blatantly, I am thinking of using Peridot Alchemy to highlight the Armor and hammer...

Thoughts, comments Critiques welcome!

A little more work.

Started high lighting his belts with a mix of Brown and Orange Leathers, started on the belt buckle with Necro Gold.

The skulls got base coated with GW Snakebite Leather.

The hammer haft got VMC Ivory followed by a wash of Devlin Mud, and the wrappings were done with Arabic Shadow.

(I decided that the wrappings were made from human skin, so that is the direction I plan on there, and the haft will get darker.

Progress continues!

The Skulls were given a coat of GW Bleached Bone, then VMC Ivory.

The ropes holding them, and the necklace string were coated with Nacre, then a wash of (what I think is) GW Dark Brown Wash.

The belts were high lighted further with Orange leather, then a mix of Orange Leather and Iroku.

The Gold got a layer of Viking Gold

His skirt was further high lighted with a mix of Cantabric Blue, and Tesla Blue, then straight Tesla Blue, and lastly Mediterranean Blue

I looked up Black Cow Horns to try and make his horns look more interesting, and used VMC Ivory around the bases, and along the ridges, followed by  glazes of a Graphene and Rainy Grey mix.

The hammer haft got washes of the Dark Brown, and Walnut, while the wrappings got 2 more coats of Arabic Shadow.

Not to much time to paint tonight, but I worked on the gold and his boots.

Boots got VMC Leather Brown, German Camo Medium Brown, and the soles were done with German Camo Black Brown.

The Gold with Dwarven, then Elven Golds...

The Hammer haft got more washes...

The Al Fasid, also known as "The Corrupted", are HaqqIslam's heavy troopers that will get the job done no matter the cost.  Their methods aren't always the prettiest, and they're never the stealthiest, and they have their own tricks they bring with them to the table.  They don't care about glory, and are solely chosen for their solid record of getting the job done.  Some enjoy it, some are in it for the solid paycheque, and others do it because the only thing theyy know what to do is fight.  Today I have the HMG version, who also conveniently carries a grenade launcher that can shoot either regular grenades to keep enemy heads down, or smoke grenades to provide additional cover.  Oh, they also pack anti-personnel mines with them too...

Since the "tactical rock" under his right foot kind of looked rather strikingly like the backpack for a Yu Jing (even though I'm not having any luck finding models to confirm this), I decided to try and test out my planned colour scheme for them.  That's right, I'll be going with a dark raver / cyberpunk burnt neon pink for their general colour, because why not - I'm going with hot orange for my Haqq...

Please see the main post here for rules, questions and general chatter, while using this thread to keep a list of links to your show-offs or show-off related comments in a single post: A reminder to please adhere to miniatures posting guidelines as usual.
All the information you need should be here.

As a change of pace from the Hard Mode Challenge, this round will have a Skill Challenge.

      May and June 2019 Challenge

      Your challenge is: 9!

      Bonus Challenge: The First!
"Mayday!" is an international distress signal used in verbal communication in ships and aircraft.  Your first bonus challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to paint a miniature in some distress.  This could be a diorama, an adventurer falling into a trap, villian whose weapon just broke, or anything else your mind can conjure.

      Bonus Challenge: The Second!
The Solstices: June marks the beginning of Summer in the Northern Hemisphere and Winter in the Southern Hemisphere.  Paint a miniature or a pair of miniatures showcasing this duality.

      Skill Challenge: OSL
Try your hand at painting a miniature using OSL or Object-Source Lighting.  If you feel like this is something that is already in your wheelhouse, work on your technical skills in another area.  Practice NMM, TMM, wet-blending, sculpting, or anything else you've been meaning to try.

As always, the game is made up and the points don't matter!

Being that this is the figure that was the biggest reason why I picked up the Hassassin Bahram Sectorial Starter Pack (say that three times fast ), I was suspecting he'd wind up on my painting desk sooner or later...  I just didn't realize he'd have the honour of being the first finished this year, as well as my first finished Infinity miniature!

At some point in the near future I'll acquire some S2 holoprojector tokens for him, as actual 3D representations are nice.  Not sure where from, but I like my current Art of War Studios things, so probably theirs.
Oh, and for those who might be curious, that's a Global Evil Corp UniPod with two StairPods (well, one pack) in the first three pics, fourth one is a DuoPod with a StairPod alongside it.  Sadly no magnets yet for the terrain, but they're on the way, and will get here at some point

So I was just about to check out my first Star Wars Legion game night at the lfgs when the whole apocalypse thing happened, so rather than painting my Imperials, I've been focusing on  getting my rebel scum assembled so that wife (who is "mostly" interested in playing) and I can learn to play here at home. With that complete I now need to get some more Imperials finished so we can actually play, since I'm not attaching bases to the Imperials until they are painted.
As my wife actually agreed to play this weekend, that meant I needed a commander quick!  So I pulled up the FFG guide online to paint Vader and knocked out a decent tabletop in a couple of hours.

Good enough and he already squeaked on a victory yesterday in our first game (he had one wound left).
Now back to painting white armor to get more troopers ready.....sigh.

This is the Reaper Bones Dire Bear (SKU 77494).  This was another test of contrast paint, this time over a base of skin color.  I think it turned out pretty good, and it was fast, which is always a plus when trying to conquer the mini mountain.
