Rabbit Mage with Staff - DSM8061

Finished this Miniature LATE last night.  It was so much fun doing it, I

couldn't put it down!  Of course, that explains why I am dragging butt today !

 

I wanted to play around with colors, and decided I needed a white challenge, I sure got it !

This was a Christmas present so I wanted to get it finished to show the giver that I really appreciated

the gift.  I like the way the colors are bouncing off each other.  Shadows were very interesting, especially

as I rotated the miniature around.  I based him standing in snow on a walnut colored base.  That added

some drama to him. 

 

Your comments and critiques are always welcome.  Do leave me a note please.

I really like what you did with him, Jay. He's very well done and so is the basing!

 

The cloak stands out to me with the shimmery look to it, the metalwork is nice and again, the base is really cool!

He is great, the white fur is very well done, and I love the grass tufts sticking up through the snow. One little nitpick, the green highlighting on the robe could be smoother and have even more contrast.

The big problem now for me (thanks to YOU) is I start looking at a basing theme and say.. "ITS NOT good enough"..ROFL.

I keep on raising that bar about what is acceptable for me.  I like the "Heavy Snow Feeling" on the basing. 

The white was a real challenge, as was the shadows.

I've been working on NOT getting Chalky highlights, think I have discovered the addition of brush on sealer makes that chalky look not

occur.  Browns, and greens can get pretty blerg when they get that off white/non color look !

UBERCOOL! The gold skull cap brings Merlin from Excalibur to mind. That aside, the Wizardly Bunny is BEAUTIFULLY painted & based. OUTSTANDING WORK!

Thank you for your extremely kind words.  Its all just a matter of practice, and learning.  Challenge yourself,

and above all listen to what the members of this forum tell you.  You will be amazed at the genius, kindness, and

incredible skill of your fellow Reaperites.  These folks will never steer you wrong, and soon you will be painting complex

characters, with aplomb, and gusto !  I make it a point to NOT look at what someone else paints a character like,

so my mini's reflect how I see them.  Last thing I want to do is clone someone else !  I learn NOTHING that way !

This was so much fun to do.  I must admit that since I have started taking my time to learn NEW skills;

I spend a lot of time looking at how I "COULD" do something, and then choosing another venue to walk down.

I've gotten very critical about what I do thanks to the high skills of my fellow forumites. 

I'm not happy unless I feel challenged by what I am doing.  I even cut the broccoli off this mini just so I could

peg and mount it differently.

I'm forcing myself to grow.

Yeah, I've noticed the helpfulness of this forum.

(I know of two other forums that are on par with this; the ShapeOko forum, and the Parallax forum -that's CnC and hobby electronics respectively. both are backed by companies that put customer service first, just like Reaper. There may be a common denominator there?)

 

I do look at other's work, but mostly to try to steal ideas on technique.

How to properly paint fur is one thing that I'm looking to get a handle on.
