haldir Posted April 18, 2022 Share Posted April 18, 2022 So my Saltmarsh is on a side adventure right now, we are still playing Saltmarsh, just this one is a level gap filler adventure I found on DM's Guild. It takes the smugglers in Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh & gives them a background. The captain "Snake Eyes" was actually a yuan-ti pureblood & was part of a sub-plot. This is part 1 of a trilogy of gap fillers. Now we didn't play the first one, since I didn't know about this line & we went on a side trek to a hunting lodge full of spores (gotta love fighting the environments in 5e!!). I've explained elsewhere on here what the 2nd part is, but the 3rd part has the heavy hitters of the Yaun-Ti/Scarlet Brotherhood. The leader is a 4 armed Malison Type 3 yuan-ti with spellcasting abilities. Ok then! Putting together a small order with a retailer this afternoon, I saw they had preorders open for the next wave of Unpainted (May 11th btw) & I came across this guy from the MtG line: MtG Unpainted Miniatures: Shigeki, Jukai Visionary (90507) While he doesn't have a human head, he'll be perfect for the leader. I'll just adjust the description & such. Thou, he is on a 75mm base so he is allot bigger then medium or large but I think I can work around that by just using his tail as his bulk. I agree, there has always been at least 1 figure in each release that catches my eye. In a recent order, I got the woman/tree-"ent" with the lanterns. One of my players who is a magic player says her card is around 100 dollars now, but knew who she was when I showed the mini off last Saturday. So I'm actually debating on getting 1 Frameworks mini & oddly it's the wight figure. I like the sculpt when you use the sword, but I also found some stls of wights that I really like as well. I like the female "ninja" & Kitsune. Ok, placed my order as I needed a couple minis for this Saturday (again Gnomish Bazaar for the win!). I haven't picked up the Nolzur's wight yet, so I searched for wight & while I was about to add that one, the Rune Wights from Reaper came up & I thought these would fit with my encounter, thus I didn't order the Nolzur's or Frameworks. I've seen a 100$ price tag for the Balor! I got the Nolzur's one for a tenth of that price and the entirety of the Legend of Drizzt board game (which comes with an even bigger Balor and more minis and modular tiles...) costs a portion of that! Hell even Warhammer greater daemons and daemon princes and the LOTR Balrog cost like 30$ less! And with the former two you get way more modular bits than just "three horns, two manes (one's on fire), two swords and a few extra flame bits if you want". 4 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Some people are model makers & the figures answer that. I've got a friend, @Kelcore that has been showing off his painted figures. It helps that he is a fantastic painter, but his work show how well these figures can be. I still want to pick one or two up, just to see for myself. I'd support my FLGS, but I'm not sure if they'll bring any in & ordering is kinda of hassle with a long wait period due to some things they need to order from a different distributor that requires a $1,000 min order (yikes!) before they'll send the order. I definitely will stay away from the spendy figures like the baler (that one is waaaay overpriced) & probably the 30 dollar figures. Nunae Posted May 14, 2022 Share Posted May 14, 2022 I can see the PC frameworks for 12,99 Euro appealing to players who place a lot of emphasis on having the correct load out on their miniature. The spellcasters especially have some very flashy effects (who will definetly hang way over the base and make it difficult to push miniatures in neighboring squares, but that's another topic). The creatures are kinda priced outside my "gaming figure" pain tolerance, especially since all those creatures are widely available already, most of them from Wizkids themselves. I can buy a Night Hag framework for 21,49 or a Night Hag with a Dusk Hag for 4,49 or another Night Hag with a Green Hag friend that time for 4,49 as well. All Wizkids. That's kinda funny. Sure, the astral lollipops on the Frameworks one are cute. But to me that price for a human-sized figure goes out of "gaming figure" and into "display/painting project" territory. And in that territory I get a lot more choosy since there are so many pricy but gorgeous, high quality figures available. Idk, Wizkids figures have been far to inconsistent in their casting quality and overall detail for me to consider them a "premium product" and pay accordingly. I own a lot of Wizkids unpainted and I enjoy using & painting them, but in a similar way I enjoy painting and using my Bones (that is, not getting too concerned about mold lines and gaps, cut some apart for modding, slap paint on, go). 4 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
