Nice!

Your Partha Swords lady is 61-093 Siera Swordmistress,

and your 'Bad Guy' is From RP AD&D 11-003 Magic Users, that came with a male and female figure that had similar sculpts and weapons...

(Both are in my hoard of unpainted lead, somewhere...)

I roughed in their skin and faces.

Well, I say "roughed in", but these are basically what their faces are going to be.  It's just that I have a tendency to go back and adjust things as I paint the rest of the figure.

The figure below means a lot to me; I had one of her long ago.

The Ral Parthas (like the one on the left, below) have exquisite faces.  The other brands are sometimes a little rougher to paint.

This guy has a bit of a mess on the right side of his face (our left).  I may paint him up with an eyepatch:

Still have my Grenadier Dungeon Explorers. And still haven't painted them all.

Grenadier sculpts tended to be chunkier and less crisp than Partha. Main thing that kept Grenadier in business was the Dungeons and Dragons license. After they lost that, they coasted for a few years, but other companies with finer sculpts eventually squeezed 'em out.

But for many of us, they were our first. And you never forget your first...

It's always enjoyable to see a different way of painting miniatures. Your skin palette is a really interesting way to approach faces. I'm very much looking forward to seeing how these figures progress.

As do I. I keep meaning to practice my OSL on that lantern bearer figure, but it hasn't bubbled to the top of the list yet.

Basically true. The trigger was the lead ban, which Grenadier used as an excuse to raise their prices (as did everyone else), but Grenadier doubled their prices. This made them uncompetitive, especially with the higher quality of their competitors' products. Killed them very quickly.

I've blocked in the hair colors (these are not final) and primed what are going to be silver areas with black.

The greys were mixed with pure black and white.  I think this was a mistake, because they "read" really blue.

I'm going to glaze brown over the greys and maybe touch them up with pale grey-browns.

Thank you, that's true.  I still enjoy old Grenadier sculpts, however much they have been superseded by more sophisticated fare.

Thank you very much.

So I came upon this little WIP quite by accident. Going to serve myself some ice cream and get ready for the long haul.. I can't wait to see these all when they're done and am definitely going to enjoy the trip to the end.

One of my favorites too is that little Guthrie thief. Painted her a while back with an Asian skin tone. It looks like you might be going a bit darker so I am just waiting with baited greathe to see the results!. And i really love the orange tone you're giving your goblins, so nice.

While working on something else (the story of my studio ...) I washed a bit of Burnt Umber over the grey to take down the blueness.

And just to show how tiny these Old School figures are, I lined them up with two modern Reaper minis, the Bones 77135: Mariel Twinspar, Pirate, and 77132: Barnabus Frost, Pirate Captain.
