77364: Angel of Shadows (new cropped photos)

Recommended Posts

My first finished piece with some minor OSL, made as a gift for a very dear friend of mine.

The head of this otherwise beautiful bones miniature had some casting flaws, so I swapped her head with a cast copy of a Kingdom Death Sunstalker dancer Pin-up miniature.

Any critique is very much appreciated, since I just want to learn and keep getting better with miniature painting.

It looks beautiful! But unfortunately your photos are so far from the subject that it's hard to see all the details you put into it. In the future you should try to get closer to the mini when you photograph it so we can really appreciate your work.

Thank you and yes you are right, I need a better camera. I only have my Xperia Z5 cell phone to take pictures and if I come closer I can't get a good focus. It has a macro setting on it, but that tends to distort the colors a lot.

Time to spend less on miniatures and save up for a better camera

She is lovely. I like your choice of colors and I really like the soft pink light from the lantern.

 Thank you Pochi!

Yeah, that and just cropping out the 2/3 gray area would 'zoom' the picture to fit better and larger on our screens.

But from what I see, it looks nice!

I agree. If your phone's camera program has a crop function, just slice the gray sides off, and make the photos vertical.

Edit: Oops! You beat me too it. :)

I cropped one photo to see how it will look.

Already it starts to blur a bit.. I will look into getting sharper images.. Thanks for the feedback!!

Much better! The OSL looks great! I couldn't even tell she was holding a lantern before! :). And the head transplant looks fabulous.

Much better images cropped!  I like her wings!  Feathers are my bane at the moment, as I'm working on a hippogryph I converted.  The OSL is detectable from these images too.  My only critique there would be that OSL doesn't really happen unless everything else is dark--think of a flashlight in the sun.

Good call on the cropping. She already looked great, but now we can see all the details she looks fantastic! Great job.

Good morning everybody and Happy New Year!

So I actually had these painted since the very beginning of the year, but had to go out of town and couldn't get their bases finished until I got back.  So here are my first miniatures completed for 2020, four lizard men that Julie Guthrie sculpted for Ral Partha if I recall correctly in 1982-1983 with her series All Things Dark and Dangerous.  I've always really loved these figures and have had them on my pending list of stuff to paint, but finally got around to really painting them.  I painted each one in a different color because I wanted a bit of variety.  They did all start of though being covered by a good layer of Creamy Ivory (Reaper) and then I did washes on all that, and then afterwards chose the actual color and kept going.

Anyhow, hope you guys like these guys!

Two more members of my hill giant tribe, obviously the one on the left is the original. The one on the right has a totally seamless hair piece (!) and obviously a modified club based on one stolen from another giant. He also has a slightly more upright stance which required an extension of his furs and was probably more trouble than the effect is worth, to be honest.

This is one of my armies that I’m working on for Dragon rampant. Sadly there are not many pictures to post of it right now since I don’t have many models, yet. But a large portion of it will be made up of Reaper overlords units with a couple of minis from others brands thrown in.
The first one! This is an Overlords Onyx phalanx by Reaper minis. I needed to compare sizes with my hero before getting a full force so I sadly only have one currently.

The other unit currently being worked on is a Wizkids Nolzurs triceratops that I am converting into a cavalry mount. I am using milliputt for the harness, and am planing to use paper clips to make the reins. I’m wanting to make it barded like a warhorse but I’m unsure on how to do it. Any suggestions?
I hope to get my rider in here soon so I can start working on that part of the conversion.
      Thankyou for looking!

This was my 2019 ReaperCon Open category entry. I took Shaelin, a female bard and converted her to a vampire hunter. I am very happy with how she turned out as these were the most intensive conversions that I have done before.

      Changes that I made:
      Removed hawk on shoulder
      Swapped lute for a crossbow
      Added hat
      Removed hood on cloak
      Added fur to cloak
      Swapped sword for crossbow bolt
      Changed cloak clasps
Added overlap and buttons to tunic
      Added sleeves

This was created at Reapercon 2018 at the bones conversion class.
removed the rider and the saddle, added the mystery wings.
it went through 2 rounds of greenstuffing and re-texturing.
only to end up here.  painted between Christmas and New years.
I still have issues with the wings, which a mostly drybrushed. Ah well.
