Xauhaudoom
Hey folks, plan on painting some old drow miniatures for a friend (he's old school gamer). However not sure to paint the base coat of the drows skin color either the with Dark Elf Skin 09164 or Dark Elf Highlight 09165. Also I plan on paint Shaerileth Spider Demoness 03465 and was wondering to use the either Dark Elf Highlight or the Dark Elf Skin for the base coat for the female torso part? I am was thinking doing the Dark Elf Skin for the female part and either Dark Elf Shadow or Nightshade Purple for the spider part. Thanks, Mike J
ub3r_n3rd
The triads are meant to be for ease of use. The shadow will be the shadows/crevices where less light touches, the dark elf skin is meant for the base coat/mid tone, and the highlight for the highlights where the most light touches and highest points. A lot of us use more contrast and different colors added to triads or mix in other colors that will look good. Really don't be afraid to experiment and use colors that don't have "skin" in their names for skin colors. Bane Of Humanity
For Drow Skin. I use the Dark Elf Shade as the base coat. Dark elf shade mixed with black for the darker areas. And go all the way up to the darkelf skin highlight. So it wouljd look something like this Dark Elf shade = Base,Dark elf Shade 2 parts + 1 part black = Shades, dark elf skin 2 parts + dark elf shade 1 part = 3 layer Dark elf skin = 4th layerDark elf skin 1 part + 1 part Dark elf Skin highlight = 5 layerDark elf highlight = layer 6 Dark elf highlight 2 parts + 1 part white = 7th layer Extreme highlight. I have found for skin. Glazes are your friend. All the layers with the exception of the base can be glazed on.
fanguad
The Dark Elf triad has a pretty good range to it. I would recommend using the middle color of the triad for the main skin color. It's purple rather than "black," but it sounds like you were aware of that. When I use it, I don't usually find the need to mix in white or black to the highlight/shadow colors.
Pingo
Psst. That image in the first post violates the forum's "no nudity" policy.

Glitterwolf
You might want to link that pic due to the nudity policy on the forum.. It depends.. some of us use the midtone and then add shadows and highlights, others start with the shadow and work it up to light. As Ub3r said use colours without the nametag skin for skin, also...use colours with the word skin for other things..
