Extrabio47
What are the differences between Reaper's various black paints? Pure Black, Nightmare Black, R.A.M. Black, Solid Black, and Noir Black? Opaqueness? Consistency? Actual color? Are some more of a dark gray rather than a true black (notwithstanding the presence of light)? Any help would be appreciated.
cutebutpsycho
Pure black is, quite simply, black. Nightmare black is more of an extremely dark blue. Aside from that they are not paints I own so I can't give you more answers.
fishnjeeps
I painted these CAV using nightmare black and purple. In light coats, nightmare black is actually dark blue. With enough coats you can get a blacklike color.
EvilJames
Noir black is a very grey black, good for painting black suits on mobsters and the like. Nightmare black is supposed to be a blue-black, but it doesn't quite hit that shade. It's great for adding shadows on most blues though. Pure black is exactly what it says on the tin. Don't have R.A.M. Black so I can't guess it's purpose.
MissMelons
RAM black.... Is like.... Grey black with hint of blue in it. Noir black is simply grey black, like a muted black color. Nightmare black is the darkest blue imaginable. And pure black is Black. Blacker than black? Haven't compared it. Reapers Dragon Black was the darkest thing void of light I have faced.
Extrabio47
Thank you all very much. This is wonderful information. So, MissMelons, when will we mere mortals be allowed access to Dragon Black?
Gadgetman!
Isn't that one of the new MSP Bones paints? If so, I believe the timeline is 'soon'. Just check the relevant thread, and this post: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/65247-msp-bones-hd-paints/?p=1303984 Edited March 31, 2016 by Gadgetman!
MissMelons
Thank you all very much. This is wonderful information. So, MissMelons, when will we mere mortals be allowed access to Dragon Black? I THINK, it's one of the new bones paints releases. It used to be an old pro paint. Thing is, I don't know if it's the same formula as the old dragon black. Anne could be awesome and make it a different shade of black for all we know. We already have Solid Black and Pure Black after all. Edited March 31, 2016 by MissMelons
Loim
Nightmare Black is one of the great colors of RMS. Right next to Peacock Green, Walnut Brown, and Deadrose Red HD.
Doug's Workshop
I had a bottle of Pro Paint Dragon Black. Flatter than West Texas, it was. I was very sad when it was no more. I used it to finish the edges of my bases.

Kheprera
I have several bottles of Pro Paint Dragon Black still... transferred to dropper from the pots. <3 And yes, Peacock Green is a fantastic color. I would love to get my hands on a True To Life swatch of Pro Paint Elderberry. I am trying to come up to a close approximation to this color, but it's one of the few I never had.
djizomdjinn
Nightmare black is the darkest blue imaginable. Once you coat it a few times yes. Just one coat ends up something like Prussian blue.
Guildenstern
nice info! I've been wanting to try painting something black, using blue as a highlight which you get in some deep deep blacks so this is definitely helpful information.
EvilJames
I still have a bottle of propaint blue-black. I use it for dark elves. Not sure what I'll do when it runs out.
