STEAMFORGED GAMES TO DEVELOP DARK SOULS BOARD GAME

Steamforged Games is proud to announce we will be working with Bandai Namco Entertainment, developing an exciting board game for the Dark Souls universe.

As Dark Souls fans, we could not be more excited to be given the honour of developing a board game that embraces everything that makes Dark Souls the deep, compelling game experience that it is.

The Dark Souls board game will be launched on Kickstarter during April 2016.

While pretty amazing, one does have to wonder if them announcing it during the last day of March means it was a slightly early April Fools joke or not. You know, like Games Workshop's "left handed paintbrush" announcement.

Steamforged Games did hint at this on Tuesday 'though and haven't stepped up to debunk it with a big disclaimer yet. I suppose we'll all just have to wait and see.

I really want to believe that it's true. Guild Ball's a pretty good product. I've got most of the teams and the miniatures are positively gorgeous. Unfortunately now that means I'm going to put off preordering the hunter's guild team (in resin) for as long as possible in case they announce something more specific nearer the hunter's guild release date.

The project is set to launch on Tuesday at 8pm GMT.

The Steamforged Guys were apparently running demo games of the Dancer of the Boreal Valley encounter at Salute this weekend.

There's even a lovely video on Beasts of War here: http://www.beastsofwar.com/liveblogentry/dark-souls-board-game-coming-kickstarter/

Interested in the game, but that hammer just looks stupid in my opinion. Didn't get very far into Dark Souls, keep meaning to go back to it (I blame minecraft).

Dark Souls of all the games that have enormous impractical weapons does among the best job of showing how dumb they are in general principle, and in using them effectively to convey a narrative. Smough, the hammer's wielder, is a completely unrefined cannibal who wishes to become a knight. As such he is given a huge impractical and crude weapon that only one as enormous as himself could even hope to wield.

Also the single most annoying boss in the game.
