Infamy One Shot #1 (Hob)Goblin Chieftain

Recommended Posts

Go or it!

That's a mean looking lance the Gobbo is wielding!

I was thinking the same thing!

Model coming along nicely.

Was to tired last night after PAX to paint, and too much RL happened today to paint much, but I got a little done...

Reading in MMI that Hobgoblins wear Black Leathers, I decided that since I am painting him as a Hobgoblin, those color choices would apply to the saddle and such on the mount as well...

So I blocked in the saddle and the straps with Decay Black....

Did another round of high lights with Brown Grey as well...

It looks a little stark now, but I plan on some glazes...

My DaVinci Maestro #1 kept fish-tailing on me....

Don't know why, brush is less than 6 months old, and barely used....

Comments welcome!

Thought occurred, Did anyone get both this mini, and the Bombshell Babes Jungle Elf on Raptor?

That sounds to me like a diorama in the making....

Why yes, I did.... ::D:

Again, not much time tonight....

But I got the next level of highlight on the Chicken, using a 50% mix of Brown Grey and Rainy Grey.

I also did the eyes with Purity White, followed by Marduk Yellow, then the pupil in Petroleum Grey.

The Mouth got "Monster Mouth", Pink Flesh.

Then a little touch up around the face...

The Hobgoblin just got his eyes done, with GW Scorched brown first, then as above, and the mouth as well.

A great reason to take pics, is it shows you all those places that you 'Elfed Up' so that you can fix them....

Comments and critiques welcome!

So semi on topic here, I did a layer of 50% mix of Kalahari Orange and Mars Orange, as my first step up the high lighting of the Chief's skin...

post-14271-0-58965200-1461816616_thumb.jpg post-14271-0-23129200-1461816617_thumb.jpg post-14271-0-92205600-1461816617_thumb.jpg post-14271-0-53262100-1461816618_thumb.jpg post-14271-0-15551800-1461816619_thumb.jpg post-14271-0-85515100-1461816619_thumb.jpg

I did one of my 'swatch sticks' with these 2 and the Polly S Goblin Flesh, and the Mars Orange is almost, almost, exact for the OOP Polly S paint. Someone that had never used the Polly S before would likely never notice, and If you painted the same mini, using each paint, I would be willing to bet that no one would be able to pick out which was which....

As for the Steed, A 50% mix of Thar Brown & Brown Grey is the next step. I think I am going to need to glaze back now, but not sure which color / mix of color to use.... as I want to bring the the colors together with a more gradual transition...

So comments please!

I am going to send pics of him to the Infamy contest, and I would like to make the best showing I can!

Thanks

George

One thing by the way side....

The fact that these 2 are RESIN, and NOT metal, is really throwing me off!

They just don't have the right 'weight' for their size compared to what I am used to! So I find that I am bumping them more than I should with the brush, the desk, etc as I manipulate them during painting....

(Been painting metal minis since '77, my reflexes are set up for that 'feel'.....)

Aside from trying to weight the handles (Which made it worse!) anyone have a thought on what I could do?

Or am I just going to need to get used to it????

Thanks

Death chicken is looking good, but I feel like he could use an "all over glaze" of the mid-tone to tie everything together, I mean a really thin glaze and just making sure that those transitions are nice and blended between the shadows and highlights then you can go back in and hit it with some spot highlights afterwards.

As far as weight goes, yeah, it takes a bit of getting used to. Nothing for it unless you want to use a more hefty/weighted handle to mount the figures on to make it more like the metal you are used to, just use the hefty weighted handles for your resin figures so your metal aren't 2x as heavy!

ETA: As for the goblin, the shadows you can really tie in together with the shadows of the death chicken by using a dark blue glazed in there. Using color theory, blue is across the wheel from orange and makes for a great contrast with orange so it'd read darker, remember glaze it, don't wash it, make sure it's controlled so it doesn't pool and become blue, you want to tint the shadows and give the illusion of a darker shadowed area.

I got the early bird 4 bust deal.  FWIW I have some of their earlier figures and they've been very good quality.

The Dragonman something from the Bones 4 core set. This mini actually comes in many parts and with a selection of different weaponry and hand-held things. I went with the bucaneery sabre and dagger on account of the high boots looking a little piratey.  Also, this is what the render shown in the KS looked like.
I went with a bronze / gold armour and my new darker flock mix. Turned out well in my opinion at least.
The base is a 3D printed 35x25mm lipped oval as I thought a 40mm round was too large.

This one has been standing around half-painted for a while. The rule 63 Drizzt Do'Urden from Bones 2.
This model is quite nice from the front and back, but really flat from the side. Which is typical of originally made for single piece metal casting-minis.

These scenery bits are from the Bones 2 and 4 kickstarters respectively. I did them quick in my go-to rock paint scheme. An uneven coat of dark greengrey over a solid black undercoat, followed by a heavy drybrush with a sandy yellow, and finished with a lighter drybrush of offwhite. Quick and easy! The colours give a much more satisfying rock finish than just using the typical monochrome greys.
Too bad the colours are not really showing properly up in the photos.

On each end are the Pillars of Good and Evil from Bones 2, the rest is the subset "Grave Things" from the Bones 4 core set.

The Pillar of Evil to the left, the Pillar of Good to the right.
They are made in the older Bonesium PVC material, and as you can see it shows. No amount of the hot water trick is going to correct that warped listing there. I have not seen the metal versions so I cannot compare them with the Bones or even say that the metal ones do no list in the same way (though I doubt that they do.)

I would have thought it be more fitting if these came as a pair of each and not just one of each, but there we are. They are sold as single packs in retail anyway.

These are from the subset "Grave things" in the Bones 4 Core set. Listing again! I was unsuccessful in trying to unbend the batty one as it bent back over time. Should have left it longer in the hot water. Oh well.

Again, they should have come in a pairs of each.

It seems Bones really is not the best material for boxes with square corners and all that...must be that corrupting influence of the Warp.

This one is OK and untainted by the warp though. The loose books are a nice touch.

Tiny glyphs and imaginary writing that looks much better (and way more impressive) when not magnified, as does most of my painting. The page is actually about 10mm wide. The black symbols and all that are done with .01mm and .02mm pens.

klatoo...berata....nih*cough cough* Ok, then, thats it! *takes book, thunder rumbles* Hey wait a minute!  I said the words! I did!
