primeval
The only place I can find them is Northstar Miniatures; I got a leaping sabretooth by DZ miniatures from RLBPS but they don't carry them anymore. I know Steve Barber has some cool prehistorics too, but not one that fit this need.
lionmane
I may be chiming in late on the slit/no slit chainmail kilt issue, but have you ever seen the Frazetta painting "Dark Crusade"? That guy's got a slit chain mail skirt, as does the Death Dealer. So, there is a precedent ( and a very cool one, at that) for the slit chain skirt. Oh, the mini looks great so far-cool idea. Can't wait to see the sabretooth and girl set!

Can't wait to see the sabretooth and girl set! Well that may have decided it. If it's good enough for Frazetta.... I haven't been able to sit down with the greenstuff yet and probably won't until this weekend, so I still have time to decide for sure what all will go into this guy. I will start on the female too, but there is a lot of chopping and resculpting to be done there, including putting a helm on her with those horns coming out of it. Glad to get some input from a fellow REH/Conan fan!
Lady Tam
Add a "bronze" cap to the horn, like you would see on elephant tusks. It would make ense because it would protect the horn in battle, which is really skin and not a horn like material. LT
primeval
Wow, another great idea! I could chop the horn down some and replace the end with either a blunt end or a bladed one, and carve runes into that. Or do both the collar at the base and the cap on the horn. I am going to have alot of people to credit for their ideas when I get this thing done!
lionmane
...for the bladed horn idea, you could even get a weapons pack and cut some axe blades off and put them on the horn-cap thingie for added barbaric goodness. Just a thought. As far as sabretooths go, have you seen the one from 100 Kingdoms? It looks like it's just starting to trot foreward, right before breaking into a sprint, or maybe raising a paw to strike..and it's pretty good sized, too. primeval
Funny you should mention the 100 Kingdoms sabretooth - I just came across it the other day for the first time. I already have one from DZ miniatures that I have based, leaping off a small rise and over a stream into battle. The female demon sergeant will be turned into a female barbarian rider in a pose similar to the Frazetta painting called "The Berserker". I plan to work on her a bit this weekend while I am getting out the greenstuff to work on the barbarian on the rhino. In looking at the horn, I am not sure about the blade thing after all - we will have to see what happens when he is on the table . But if I do it I am thinking spiked ball like a spiked mace, or spearhead. On another note, the barbarian I had posted in this section with the helmet sculpted on is almost done and should be in the show off section sometime this weekend - so there is some barbaric goodness on the way! lionmane
Keep us posted on your works. Maybe post more work-in-progress pics for us. You can never have too much barbaric goodness!! I'm thinking of doing a diorama inspired by "The Frost Giant's Daughter". I'll probably use one of the Sanra Garrity barbarians for Conan, a couple of the Frost Giant minis( customize one so it doen't look the same as the other), and one of the dancing girl minis for Atali. I hope to have it done by June so I can take it to Howard Days in Cross Plains.
primeval
Wow, that sounds like a cool diorama! I am actually sitting here letting some glue dry on the spearhead I attached to the rhino horn, once I get the rest of the cap sculpted ill put up a picture. probably wont get the kilt done until tomorrow. The barbarian I posted in this section with the helm sculpted on is just waiting for his matte sealer to dry, so I hopefully can get a picture of him tomorrow too and post him in the show off section. lionmane
Sounds cool, Primeval. Right now my present work in progress is painting up some Reaper barbarians, the Werebear, and some angels for some friends in California that I met at Howard Days a couple of years back. No conversions , just straight-up paint jobs. Then , it's Frost Giant time!!
primeval
Well, if I would spend more time painting miniatures instead of cutting them up and sculpting things on them I might actually be a decent painter!
lionmane
....yeah, that's the price one pays for having vision, I guess.
Kamui K
Sorry if this was asked before, but what mini is that based from (the rider)? I thought it was a masqueade mini, but I checked and I don't think it is. I don't reconize the pose, But I like his hair and arm position. primeval
Actually you were correct - it is a Masquerade barbarian. I just got rid of the swords and gave him the axe and shield (from a Reaper weapon pack), just had to sculpt a shield strap for him to hold on to. The legs I chopped off and they have been repositioned, but will be covered by the kilt. I really did not care for the furry boots he originally had, so those went as well and I chopped off the boots of an old Heartbreaker barbarian to replace them. From the first time I saw that figure I thought he looked like he should be either leaping into battle or riding a charging or leaping mount. Kamui K
Wow! It's from THAT? Sweet! And you're right. This version of him as a rider is better from the original standing one. Keep up the good work.
