Thanks for the comments everyone!

I've finished off the burlap here, again using the Warm Deep Browns triad with Muddy soil for the deep shadows and some Linen White for the higher lights.

The stitches were next using the Terran Khaki triad. I kept it simple - the areas in deep(ish) shadow had the stitches base coated with Khaki Shadow and highlighted with the mid-tone Terran Khaki, while areas catching more light were base coated with the Terran Khaki and highlighted with Khaki Highlight. Final lights were made with a mix of Khaki Highlight and Linen White. Overall, the idea was to keep the warm tone of the figure, but still provide some contrast to the browns on the leather and burlap.

The figure has a small patch stitched on the lower rear of the figure. I opted to throw in a bit of color in form of a piece of cloth cut from a red and white checked tablecloth held on by some green stitching - all duplicating the colors of the Italian flag. Very pizza restaurant...

Thanks X! A bit more...

As mentioned previously, the pizza is putty with a little sculpting for the thicker crust and its rolled edge, while the pepperoni piece were stamped in using a short length of plastic tube.

The crust was painted with a 1:1 mix of Linen White and Tanned Leather. Straight Tanned Leather was stippled on the slightly browned edges, while Chestnut Gold was stippled over that to represent crust that browned even more.

The sauce is Clotted Red, then stippled with Carnage Red. The cheese is Linen White with a touch of Golden Blonde. The pepperoni is Carnage Red with some Linen White to pink it up a bit. This was lightly stippled in turn with Carnage Red with more Linen White, then stippled, again lightly, with Clotted Red.

OK, Mother's Day got a bit out of hand. I swear that's the last time I'm bailing her out of jail...

Anyway, in keeping with old, patchwork, cobbled together look of the piece, I rusted up the cheese grater and its mount in the left arm. I used the Harvest Brown triad for the colors and, in order to create a bubbling corroded look, I mixed the paint with a small pile of Comet cleanser*. This is an old modeler's trick for rusting exhausts, armor plate, crumpled sheet metal, etc. The brush (an old brush) is loaded with Russet Brown paint, rolled in the pile of cleanser, and then swabbed onto the part(s). After drying, varying mixes of Russet Brown, Harvest Brown, and Orange Brown are applied to get the look you want. Generally, old rust is dark while new(er) rust is light(er).

Qs and Cs welcomed.

*In case you're wondering, there are no odd fumes or chemical reactions to the combination of the cleansers (Ajax, et al work as well) and acrylic paints - Reaper, Vallejo, or Andrea. I've also used this technique with Humbrol and Testors hobby enamel paints. Like I said, it's an old modeler's trick.

OK, moving on! Next up was painting the hat and apron. Misty Gray is my go-to color for a basic white. Pure White for the highlights and a Cloudy Gray glaze for the shadows. More Cloudy Gray for the deeper shadows under the mushroom top and where it angles down on the figure's left side.

I've also lined the stitches with Brown Liner - less on the upside of the angled stitches; more on the down side. It helps to pop them out a bit. The liner was also used in between stitched panels to reinforce the seam between the two materials.

The claws are the Golden Skin triad lightened with Linen White and darkened with Oiled Leather where needed. In doing so, I was opting for a natural claw (like a bear claw). These could just as easily be a metal - rusted or otherwise - or stone if you're feeling creative.

Getting close to the end now.

Bob the pizza-slinging Golem is finished now - or at least finished to the point where I put it aside for several days then go back to it with fresh eyes looking for stray paint blobs, unpainted spots, touch-ups, and just plain goofs. I find them every time...

I hope you enjoyed the ride.

The next pics will be in the 'Show Off' forum.

Slainte,

Thank you both! I'm now looking for a follow-on project (in addition to the ones already on the table). Probably another flat...

And thanks for the 'likes' everyone!
