New Warhammer Quest ???

Question:

If it takes place inside a castle [The Silver Tower?] or it is a dungeon crawl under said castle, does it matter whether the exterior is "Ye Olde Worlde" (warhammer's original planet) or one of these new (but very nebulous) "Realms" that AoS is trapped in??

[ @Grump: not an instant fan of AoS either... ]

The baddie is Tzeenith (sp) one of the Chaos Gods. It's not a generic fantasy setting.

So, thematically, it's different.

How?

The spelling was Tzeentch in WH8; as far as I know the spelling is still Tzeentch in AoS.

Did the action in Warhammmer Quest run all over the map outside this tower? Did the action run all over the map trying to find the tower?

My only knowledge of WHQ is what I can infer from pix I have seen of the components. Looks like a dungeon crawl.

If it is a confined dungeon crawl I don't get why the exterior setting would matter. Old WH, New? ...same dumgeons.

Spotted some pictures of minis on another forum. The figures are a couple of heads taller than the figures of yesteryear  and more ornate in like other AoS offerings. It looks like dungeon crawling with modular tiles.

I see people gushing over this on other forums and I don't get it. There's some pretty nice sculpts but on the whole it looks a bit pants. Not to mention, there's a load more games out there. If this were a redux of the original that were marketed as a cleaned up streamlined type of thing, I could see the appeal. As it stands it appears more a different animal than the original. One benefit is the people who have been charging $250+ for a set of the original will likely drop theirs down greatly in price like we saw with Spacehulk.

I personally don't think we know enough about the game to really declare it mediocre or not. I never played the original, so I have no feelings of nostalgia towards it (other than friends saying it was a good game). Right now, most of the minis look cool, and if they keep the same gameplay as the old version, might be worth picking up (thinking the game will be in the $135 US range, with 51 minis, so that alone isn't too bad a price, especially if some are "deluxe" sized minis). I'm going to wait until the game hits the market, and read reviews/impressions of others. I can always buy mantic's Dungeon Saga instead...

Hmm, I'll have to check if I still have my Warhammer Quest or not.  I don't remember being too fond of it; a bit too "randomness for the sake of randomness", as were many GW titles from that time period.

I do know a few local guys who will be all over this though, so I'll get a chance to play and find out.

Yeah, there's also CMoN's upcoming Massive Darkness game if you like that art style. You could also go with Descent, D&D board games, Myth, etc. I would like to see Reaper do a dungeon crawler but I know they've mentioned it's not really their style.

I love the original, and still play, and still build custom tiles, write tracking and generating programs to generate new events, treasures, bad guys, maps, and things, etc.

So far it doesn't really look like the original to me. I'm not a fan of the new "shove as much crap on one mini and put them in a ridiculous pose with 40k style giant hands and helmets" aesthetic, and without a giant roleplay book with thousands of hours of content, my feeling is they are going to try to release this over several expansions, and at their current prices, whatevs; I'm out.

I still have the PDF for the original Warhammer Quest, somewhere - from back when they gave permission for one of the fan sites to host the files. (This was the same period when they were keeping up PDFs of a lot of the Specialist Games, Mordheim, Necromunda, even Dark Future....)

The Auld Grump - GW, spending three million dollars to create a new website with less functionality.... Can you imagine the Reaper website with that kind of monetary support?

lol.. well.. I suspect with that type of investment the Reaper site wouldn't crap out on me when I hit the back button..

It's 100% for me. I search something, click anything then hit back and get a big error message wanting me to resubmit.

I just preordered it. 51 minis for that price comes down to (if I put some value on the game itself, too) less than $2 a mini and there are several unboxing videos on Youtube that show that this is no boardgame quality, but GW hardplastic kits (yeah, they need assembly, which will probably scare the average board gamer away?).

Reading how the games played, it's nothing like the original in any way. It has the random mechanics of AOS e.g. you killed the goblin if you can balance a sausage on your nose for 5 mins

No visiting settlements, lacking any depth of the original, the boards sections don't seem very "Dungeon" to me. I'd say they stuck the "Warhammer Quest" on the title just to try and bring nostalgia into it, rather it being anything like "Warhammer Quest"
