Maglubiyet Ral Partha 10-521 (Hob & Gob Chief Diety)

Recommended Posts

So since I only had 3 main projects and the diorama going, I am starting something else!

This is Maglubiyet, Chief Deity of Goblins and Hobgoblins, who made his first appearance in the old 'Deities and Demi-Gods' from AD&D first edition...

Maglubiyet is described as a giant (11 feet tall), black-skinned goblin with flaming eyes, powerfully-muscled arms and sharp talons. He is said to wield a mighty coal-black battleaxe that constantly drips blood.

The mini is pretty cool, nicely cast with few mold lines, one of which I found while doing the initial base coat, of course...

So here he is with a base coat of MSP Blue Liner:

The eyes are gonna be fun....

If I had a couple more of these, I think they would make awesome statues for next to the doors of a temple...

This is going to be a cool figure to see how you progress on this one. I think Jim Johnson sculpted this one.

Ask and you shall receive!

Not much, I just base coated the chain and scale mails with MSP Brown Liner...

I didn't realize that there was both scale and chain until the brush was on him....

I had planned on adding Grey Liner for under the 'Plate mail' parts, but time ran out tonight.

I will take pics when I do that coat(s) to show the 3 currently available liners on 1 mini, all next to each other, should be elucidating!

The plate will be steel, the chain and scale Brass of different hues {I hope!}

George

If you look closely at the bottom edge of the mini in back it looks like it has "JAJ" signed on it...

So there you see all 3 current liners on one mini!

Looks sweet so far.  Are you going to do up the whole Powers of Law box, Knarthex?  It's been a while since I've seen the entire set painted.

The Egg

PS: I just realised that I've hit 500 posts.  And it only took me ten years.

Alas, he is the only one I have... Evil Plane rescue....

Because of your rampant pewter purchases, I've been looking over the Bay for old minis as well. I found one that looks eerily like Emirikol the Chaotic.

So pm me a link already! always loved that pic in the DMG...

He was the primary focus of work today at paint day,,,,

Steel is Thrash Metal

Scale is Victorian Brass with Inktense chestnust

Chain is Old copper with Inktense wood

I am thinking that he is a god, what would he, or his followers thing would be the best thing to line / pad his armor?

Answer is Elf Skin!

So all that goth Basic Flesh with Agrax Earthshade

The Wrappings on his fore arms is Iroku with Agrax

And his belts are a 50% ix of Brown and Black leathers...

So, once I stopped looking at the Rampancy thread, I actually got some painting done!

Worked on the Elf flesh padding for his armor with Light Skin, Moonray Flesh, a couple of glazes with a mix of Golden Skin and light skin, and finally a glaze of the aformentioned with a tiny drop of Agrax Earthshade added..

Did his Skin with MSP Drow Elf Shadow and Drow Elf Skin.

Touched up his 'eyes' with some Purity White.

All silver metal got a wash of Didi's Black Magic Ink, thinned with water and Future.

He has been fighting me every step of the way....

The brush has bumped into sooooo many places while trying to get paint on.....

Eraser brush and q-tips to the rescue many, many times!

And another Shadowrun figure, the third figure from what was originally a three piece set of Elven subtypes.

This dapper gentleman is a Wakyambi, which from what I read on line (haven't ever actually ever played Shadowrun or own any of the gaming books), he's an African Elf Subtype, tall and thin.  He was fun to paint, but his dingly dangly stuff eventually just made me cry for mercy in the hopes I would someday finish. His necklace and his little staff had quite a bit of details to it, as well has his funky monkey belt buckle.

and here is the set in its entirety, not completely great focus, but it's hard to get three figures to focus nicely:

So three more finished, I wonder how many more I can get done before I go to the great beyond?  Hopefully 50 or more per year for another thirty to forty years, but we'll see....

Hello to all you bovine aficionados!

So a while back ago I did a normal minotaur, Greek-type mythological beast with an axe on two legs.   This one is a little different, it's a Shadowrun Minotaur which has a bull's body and a "primate" face.  I think Jim Johnson sculpted it back in the nineties, as usual forgot to check for a date on the bottom.  Pretty straight forwards colors, and it's actually kind of a big and heavy model. Put him on an oval base because there was no way he was going to fit on a normal size circle one:

Anyhoos, hope you guys all enjoy him!

Hello there fine followers of the fine Reaper faith and Happy Fourth of July for those in Gringolandia!

So here is my Shadowrun Dryad, made by Ral Partha, probably sculpted by Jim Johnson in 1996 if you choose to believe the bottom of the base, and I do.

I did her the same time I did the Night Elf I also just recently posted, but one of the eyes on this green haired chicky poo, I just couldn't get it like I wanted to, so I went back and redid the eye, and I still didn't like it, so this is the third version, which I'm also not super duper satisfied with, but there comes a point when I just give up to move to the next small piece of metal.

      So here she is:

and here is a close up of her eyes.  Her left one hs that spoke that I just didn't get closed properly.  From really close it's very noticeable, but only kind of noticeable from afar and I really couldn't tell with the actual figure, only with the zoom of modern technology.  I never had these issues back in the eighties.

Anyway, I like some of these Shadowrun figures, because besides being just generally cool, they kind of cross two genres.  This one and the other night elf, could easily be fantasy figures, nothing really would orient them to actual science fiction.

So back to the painting table!  Enjoy your Independence Day, or in the rest of the world, Saturday!

      Hello Reaperholics!

So I've had this one finished for a few days now, but I usually photograph one sunny days and the last few days have been kind of cloudy.
I actually really enjoy the figure, once you get paint on her, you bring out more detail.  She's from Ral Partha's Shadowrun range. Her original set came with a dryad and another large elf subtype that I'm also working on. I have the dryad done, but I wasn't happy with her eyes so I'm going to try one more time to fix the eyes before I take final pictures.
      Anyhoos, hope you all enjoy!

For whatever reason, I seem to always see magic flame as green, so this mini was no exception!

The Al Fasid, also known as "The Corrupted", are HaqqIslam's heavy troopers that will get the job done no matter the cost.  Their methods aren't always the prettiest, and they're never the stealthiest, and they have their own tricks they bring with them to the table.  They don't care about glory, and are solely chosen for their solid record of getting the job done.  Some enjoy it, some are in it for the solid paycheque, and others do it because the only thing theyy know what to do is fight.  Today I have the HMG version, who also conveniently carries a grenade launcher that can shoot either regular grenades to keep enemy heads down, or smoke grenades to provide additional cover.  Oh, they also pack anti-personnel mines with them too...

Since the "tactical rock" under his right foot kind of looked rather strikingly like the backpack for a Yu Jing (even though I'm not having any luck finding models to confirm this), I decided to try and test out my planned colour scheme for them.  That's right, I'll be going with a dark raver / cyberpunk burnt neon pink for their general colour, because why not - I'm going with hot orange for my Haqq...
