Through a Forest, Darkly - How to Make an Ancient Yew Tree for 28mm

Recommended Posts

Ahoi,

I spent some time researching yew trees and owls the last weeks and created an old gnarly yew tree that can be removed from its base to place miniatures inside the hollow trunk and also has magnetized branches for easier transport.

If you are interested how to make one yourself check out the detailed tutorial with many pictures on Dagger and Brush:

As you can see, Anirion is adventuring again:

That is a MOST IMPRESSIVE piece of scenery...a FINELY crafted, BEAUTIFULLY painted, AND HIGHLY IMAGINATIVE creation.!

The write up was SPLENDID. I love the background scenery. VERY WELL DONE

You are very welcome lads and lasses.

I recently finalised some oak trees and wanted to share the results. I also wrote  a short article on my blog about making trees in general more realistic.

I address bark texture, foliage, trunk and crown shape, scenic basing and critters.

Finished my first mini this year, and oddly enough it was a speedpaint, taking just over an hour...

On the flipside, some of those colours work together really, REALLY well, like Sunrise Orange and Heart Throb Paint.

Does anyone know if the two victim sculpts in the tree of despair set will (or are) ever going to be available separate from the set? I need a couple dozen. Thought about creating my own but id rather spend my money here first if possible. Alternatively is anyone aware of a reaper figure i could use as a substitute? Thank you all for any help.

Hello everyone, here are pictures of a 77341 Lioness. This Bones model was sculpted by Geoff Valley. I painted it as a Black (Blue) Panther.
I kept the original base and sculpted additional high grass around to incorporate it to a larger 2 inches square base. The trees are dried roots.

Got this guy in my Bones Paint & Take Home Survival Kit earlier this year.  He was done with lots of sloppy washes and dry brushing. I put flock on its exposed twigs, for decency's sake.
