FTG13 - Goblin Chieftain's Chariot, Citadel miniatures

I've been painting up a few of my vintage pre-slotta Citadel goblins recently & I have lined up this Goblin Chieftain's Chariot (FTG13) for my next paint job. I thought it would be interesting to do it as a WIP so, here goes....

 

 

As you can see, there's quite a few pieces to assemble. It's not overly complicated but I'm definitely going to have to paint up all the pieces first then assemble them afterwards, this may prove a bit difficult as I can't exactly stick them on blue tack on an old paint pot for easy handling.

 

The goblins have some really characterful sculpting to them & I love the way the Chieftain is wearing a super big helmet & standing on a box to elevate himself above his crew & although you won't be able to see it after assembly, the box actually has a peeling "Beer" label on it!

 

 

I am going to build a swampy base to sit the chariot on, I'm not that great at sculpting so I'd love to get some input/ideas/help from the community when I come to that point.

 

 

Finally, there are a few issues that I need to overcome:

 

1. The chariot is broken at the yoke part & one of the axle scythes is missing. Pinning & gluing the yoke should be easy enough & I'm going to use some flattened copper wire for the axle.

2. The standard bearer's bow has a miscast section.

3. The Chieftain's right arm is miscast & is missing his hand. This hand looks like it should rest on the side of the chariot so I guess I will have to create one out of putty after I've painted the bulk of him & glued him to the chariot? I'm not looking forward to this bit!

Do you have any other gw goblin bits?  I just used a zombie spear/arm on a skaven mini and it didn't look too bad.  Might have to include a weapon as I imagine it would be difficult to find a hand bit without one.  Or cut off the weapon, which would still be easier than making one from scratch. 

 

Can't wait to see the end result.  I will just be sitting here with my bag of holding full of bacon!  Anyone have some ale?

 For the miscast section of the bow, if you have any kind of decent magnification it shouldn't be too hard to simply add on the missing part with greenstuff or other putty - it'll be fragile, but as long as you're not playing with it it should be fine. If you want to go all out with it, you can simply carve a slot into the section of the bow that is there and glue a piece of flattened copper wire into it to form an armature for the part you need to rebuild. In fact, the copper wire may be sufficiently large that you can just put a little bit of greenstuff over it to blend it in and sculpt on whatever details are missing.

 

 

As for the leader's hand, according to this picture (especially when viewed under magnification), it appears that his right hand is actually resting on his hip (possibly both hands on his hips), and he's possibly leaning his elbow on the side of the chariot...

However, if he really is missing the bottom part of his right arm, it'll probably be easier to just file down his arm to the elbow and then sculpt the rest of it directly onto the chariot rail instead of onto the figure, so that he's holding onto the rail. You can then use the figure's elbow as an additional attachment point when gluing it.

I've just been looking at the chieftain's arm again & it does just end at the wrist so I'll be following your suggestion or if I'm feeling lazy, assume it's a war wound & leave it..

I've not had much chance to work on it I'm afraid, I have glued & pinned the chariot together though & sorted the standard bearer. I also had a bit of a mishap when cleaning the sorcerer (at least, I think he's a sorcerer!), his feet broke off!!! He should be fairly easy to fix though.

 

Hopefully, I should be able to get some actual painting done this week & post some pics at the weekend.

Very easy.

 

A few pieces of corck as land,and the rest is water effects, add some vines and flowers/tuft. Maybe a little lizard or frog if you feel adventurous.

I had a look at your links & your regiment & basing are great especially the fungified tree!

 

I've only got a rough idea of what I am going to do with the base at the mo. I plan to have some muddy puddles, toadstools & weird looking plants here & there. Also, I want give the chariot an illusion of movement by sculpting ruts where the wheels have rolled & by somehow creating muddy wake splooshes either side of them.

Thx the tree was a real twig, varnished to conceal it..

To be honest I have one of the vintage GW Goblin Battle Chariots with Wolves...so I will be following this closely to shamelessly steal ideas get inspired.
