Barbaric Splendor Kickstarter One: Personalities

Recommended Posts

Hello all! It has been a longtime dream of mine to have a line of barbarian miniatures, and I am finally going to try and make that happen via crowdfunding. This is the preview link to my campaign that has been approved and will launch on June 1, barring the need for massive overhaul or other catastrophe (perhaps invading barbarians).

Barbaric Splendor Kickstarter One: Personalities (preview mode)

Thanks for looking!

edit: I am not sure how to get the Prelaunch tag to show in the thread title?

EDIT: Campaign is live -

Adding the Tags is my job. :;):

Best of luck with your kickstarter. Looks like some good minis there.

I would love to see a choice of female rider for that gorgeous cat. Preferably with matching unmounted

Good looking minis and price, count me in when you go live.

The project page looks good, it's pretty easy to follow. I'm surprised the cat+mount only counts as two picks, it looks to contain a lot more metal. As Sanwah suggested, a female rider option would be very nice, maybe as a stretch goal.

Some questions you will likely be asked when you go live is; "can I swap out for the Ruga-Steppes Barbarian or do I have to get him as an add-on?" or "Can I drop Rota and get two Aeyron instead?" or "Can I get multiples of the Barbarian Hillman Chief?" Not that I'd personally ever want to swap out Rota, she has that Valkyrie style look I really love. But it is sure to come up, especially since you have two Datraggs with a weapon/head swap in the base pledge. And that free barbarian looks fantastic, I expect people will be asking about getting multiples.

I'm guessing that the cost of the molds, then the man-hours to do the casting are the biggest expenses, and that the metal is a minor cost on each mini.

Since the Free Barbarian is offered on the condition it never be sold, presumably purchasing an extra would not be allowed.  Which is fine with me.  Keep it special.

Everything here looks great.  Impressive that you are doing this!

I would also agree that more females likes Rota Redblade would be welcome.

That makes sense. I'm certainly not complaining, that works out to a pretty good deal.

Oh, I figured the same thing. And as much as I really want one myself, I don't really want multiples anyway. I was just tossing out potential questions primeval is likely to get when the project goes live, so he can either answer on the project page or at least be ready to answer when they come up.

Thanks for the input so far!

The cat and rider are being offered at a cost that is lower than it will be at retail by more than the others, just for simplicity. That one I have had molded already so there is less cost at this point for it. It will probably be around $18 or $19 at retail.

Honestly, when I looked at what I had I surprised myself that I had not commissioned more females, but there will be one more in stretch goals that I am really excited about!

The female cat rider is a good idea; I will see if the sculptor can do one as a stretch goal. The only problem might be with the existing cat and rider being in the same mold - might not be very cost efficient but I will look into it!

I will also clear up the text about Suden's questions - thanks for bringing them up!

I also REALLY REALLY like the freebie barbarian, he's my favorite of the bunch.

Anyhow, I think this is great, right in my wheelhouse as a barbarian lover.

I'll cheer you on and get the word out, get some at retail later on as I'm on a spending freeze with a new house now being built. Wish you great luck and hope you can hit ALL your stretch goals my Barbarian Rage Brother!

There are some really nice gems in this project. In particular, I too like the look of the "Free" barbarian. It's a really good one. But I also really like Aeyron, mostly because of his exaggerated bodymass (the axe looks a bit puny, though, but could be the angle), and you've got Anakron working with the project, who is a really, really talented sculptor. :) (seriously, the "painted by Anakron" pledge level is ridicilously priced imo, as he is really a world-class painter!)

And the concept arts for the stretch goals look promising too. :)

A couple in there I would enjoy painting. I would also like to see more women represented.

Rota Redblade will make a great Arabian Silver dragon in human form... Ok, that sounded weird even to me... Its a player in my game. This will make a nice gift.

I backed his last project (dice towers), and found them well worth what ended up being a long wait to get them. It seemed only right to share, 'cause he makes REALLY PRETTY THINGS. Go look.

I have me a bit of a dubious, largely because I'm not certain these will, in fact, work for anybody. But. Still.. the concept is pretty damn cool.

"Tilt Five is a whole new way to play games, in Augmented Reality (AR), with freaking holograms!
When you slip on the Tilt Five glasses and look at the game board, a vibrant 3D world opens up to you.  Suddenly chasms seem to drop infinitely into your table, and game characters and monsters spring up from the game board.  This is gaming unlike anything you've experienced before.
"When we started designing the Tilt Five system our focus wasn't on the technology for technology's sake.  We wanted to provide an amazing gaming experience that blends the things you love about video games and board games. And we wanted it to be just as fun when playing solo, together with your friends, or even when you're apart."  Jeri Ellsworth, Co-Founder & CEO "

Be interesting to see if this lives up to itself.
