I use an IPEVO View 2, which comes on a stand and can be oriented lots off different ways to focus on the work table and not my ugly mug

Woah that is a really interesting webcam. Can't say I've ever seen one like that.

I been looking for the "Hey! I'm online" thread but my Search-fu sucks.

Been trying to be more social and thought a hangout while my brush made a mess of a mini.

Is there a general hangout or discord that is always available or is one created away the time someone sets it up?  I've not used either platform before.

Looks like the "I'm on!" thread got slightly buried a page or two down: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/69075-google-hangouts-chatter-thread/

As for a general chatter Discord, it's the third link in the first post of this thread.  Activity in it is typically restricted to text-based (for most of the channels within it anyways), and activity varies from nobody talks for two days to, "OMG how on earth has it gone sixteen pages in five minutes?!?!?"

The Hangout we have here is a permanent one, it just has to be actively logged into, so doesn't always have people in it.  As for typical times people are on, it seems to vary, but most are usually on when it's evening for them.

Current link:  https://hangouts.google.com/call/01uvpATfjyv_BtIQtxSxAAEE (Updated 1/24/18, OneBoot)

If you are on an Android phone and get redirected to the Hangout app in the Google Play store instead of to the actual hangout, do the following to fix it:

1) Tap the hangout link, which will open the Google play store (for some reason)

2) Tap the three dots icon in the top right corner of the screen

3) Tap "Desktop site"

4) Ta-da! The hangout will open up in a browser window so you can actually use it.

Tapping the three dots icon now only gives me the options to:

- Flag As Inappropriate

- Enable Auto Update

?????

It took some messing about but DH and I figured it out.  It's linking me to the Google Play Store app to get Hangouts.  It is not linking me to the Google Play Hangouts app.  Does that make sense?  DH showed me how to copy and paste on the phone and if I copy the url to the browser it will link just fine to the Google Play site with three dots and the link to Hangouts as described above.   But if I just click, it takes me to a different Google Play app page with no "desktop site" link.

I don't know how to capture screen shots, if anyone can tell me I'll post images showing the difference.

I found a way around it, kinda... I copied the link, opened a new browser window, checked the Desktop setting, THEN pasted the link. It kinda went wonky after that though because it wasn't letting me let the site use my camera and microphone and I had a heck of a time convincing my phone to let it.

So, is the hangout well and truly borked now? I tried last night, and this is what happened:

1. link redirected to google play store

2. clicked the three dots and selected desktop site

3. it tried to open and then I got the message 'call ended due to an error'

4. redirect to a page telling me i need to install hangouts plug in to get started

5. click install and it goes to a page giving me 4 choices of download package with no info on which one i might want

6. randomly pick one (it's probably the wrong one, I've only got a 25% of guessing correctly)

7. it downloads then tells me that my phone has no way to read the file

8. swear and bang head on desk (no, it didn't help)

I'm trying to do all this on an android phone; my computer doesn't have a microphone or camera and is so old it's barely adequate for browsing the forum.

Sounds like we need a new link; I can't do that because I'm not a mod anymore. FWIW, I have an Android and it's currently working for me, it's not even redirecting to the Google Play store.

Maybe try unistalling and reinstalling the Hangouts app? (not in destop mode or the Play store will give desktop download options). Also try signing out of google and signing in again; the easiest way to do that if you have a gmail account is to sign out/in through that, cuz google's stuff is all linked. If those don't work, I'll do some research and see what else could help.

Huzzah!

I've been there for most of the last weeks (every time I am on, I let you guys know - and normally responses are pretty rate), and I know that @Leopardpixie, @Pezler the Polychromaticand @buglips*the*goblinjoined in sometimes, so I know it works. At least when using the laptop or computer.

In regard to the mobile device, I found a number of different possibilities to troubleshoot, but I guess the best try is to put on a new hangout link for the time being and see what happens.

Since it does work for other folks, I'm pretty sure it's not the link, so don't worry about creating a new one. I think the issue is on my end. I'm going to try what OneBoot suggested and see how it goes.

I'm not sure what changed, but on my phone clicking on the link now takes me to the Play Store, and there's no option to open hangouts like before.

What works:  copying the url and pasting it into a fresh search bar.  I don't know why.
