Lost World Project Glitterwolf Paints Coldblooded Creatures and Conquistadores

Recommended Posts

Hurrah hurrah! I'll have to look into those Papo Permians!

As to earlier fauna, I know Safari Ltd. has a TOOB of Cambrian life including Anomalocaris, an excellent trilobite, and a number of other littoral scuttlers. Better, it was on clearance at my local craft store and discounted on their website! The arthropods are going to be "Large" creatures at 28mm and 32mm scales, which is great for lost world purposes! I'm using them as alien fauna for spacefuture stuff. Some can use a repaint. Worth the cheap price.

Looks like they also carry a Prehistoric Life TOOB with a glyptodont and a giant sloth at tabletop-appropriate (though not palaeontologically accurate) scale, FWIW. Also a bunch of dinosaur skulls at wildly differing scales.

Eryops and Diplocaulus are adorable! I know I've seen pictures of such toys, and the internet says Kaiyodo makes some.  Here's a forum with some relevant stuff, maybe, though how *helpful* it is I don't know. http://dinotoyforum.proboards.com/thread/4539

Also the apparently nigh-legendary PlayVision set: http://dinotoyblog.com/2014/02/11/prehistoric-amphibians-play-visions/ It might be easier and less expensive to sculpt your own.  The great thing about amphibians is that blobby, lumpy, goggle-eyed, and ungainly are features, not bugs!

Thank you.

I have visited the dinoforum more than once.

The thing with the toys is, I like some of them, the Dimetrodon I got from Schleich looks great and is screaming for a repaint.

But some toys lack detail...since..toys..and not minis.

I wished Reaper would make some of these early critters in Bones.

Of course I'm grateful for Bones IV, dinosaurs, mammoth etc..

That Cambrian Life toob sounds great. And dinosaurs skulls are never wasted.

I got a toob of prehistoric mammal skulls from @knarthex last year which will be used for my Horde of the North Project.

I will have to see if I can get that Cambrian Life toob on my side of the pond.

Sadly not every toy makes it way to Europe.

About sculpting..I already tried my hand at some trilobites ( see my Welcome to the Jungle Terrain) and I gave feathers to some Ral Partha Raptors.

Still, I would prefer well detailed minis for this.

Many companies will make dinos, mammoths and such, but very few make permian/cambrian or devonian miniatures.

Dimetrodon is the exception. Maybe because it looks so dinosaurlike..

Well, I'll be waiting for next year when Andeluvian Miniatures mail me to get the Gorgonopsids and Bones IV will be fulfilled.

Ral Partha made prehistoric mammals and a few other types of critters, though they would be small by modern standards. I have seen them for sale on the Ral Partha Europe site, in the "Animals and Prehistoric" section. I especially like the Phorhusracos (sp?) "Terror Bird" with its cute little stubby wings and great big sharp beak.

Thanks Pingo.

I have some Ral Partha Prehistorics, T-Rex ( Painted), Triceratops, Velociraptors ( Sculpted feathers on those and now being painted) and I got a small Dimetrodon from the BOGW.

The mammals are interesting, but those will end up in my Horde of the North Project.

I'm pretty sure I want some Hyenadons and Andrewsarchus models.

About that Terrorbird, ( I have the Axebeak from Reaper and the onse Talespinner sculpted for another KS) but have you seen the one in Bones IV?

It looks like the Ral Partha one to me. ( Pledged for that pack of course, love the dinos and the sloth in that one)

For the Lost World I really would like to see more pre-dinosaur age creatures, like the Cambrian/Permian and Devonian period.

I have looked at Dutch websites, the Cambrian Life Toob from Safari is not available here, only from USA, making it too expensive to order due to shipping.

Odd, because many other toobs are being sold here.

I'm pretty happy with the Schleich and Ral Partha Dimetrodons I got, and I can get two metal Gorgonopsids next year through Andulivean Miniatures.

But I would love more diversity.

I already sculpted a few crude trilobites, but I want more.

Scale is less important to me, this is fantasy and some creatures might have evolved to become even bigger, they had millions of years to do that..

And some species, like the Dimetrodon actually had different kinds who varied in size.

The Cambrian Toob is available in the UK, but it's really quite expensive

Thx, Yeah the price is steep.

Oh..and please remove the link, commercial links are not allowed on the forum.

I appreciate pointing it out.

I'll keep my eyes open for stuff like this, but it should be a reasonable price/shipping.

I mean we're talking small plastic toys...

The pics have inspired me...I will NEVER go swimming again.

If you want real inspiration; read "Wonderful Life: The Burgess Shale and the nature of History" by Stephen Jay Gould.  Its probably the book I treasure most in my collection.

Confrontation - Ophidian Warrior is finished.

I didn't attach his sword because I liked him better this way.
