WIP-Thelgar Halfblood 03197

Thelgar is my current project. Working through the base coats at the moment.   I'm planning on highlighting the skin up through the moss colors triad.  I haven't been able to decide what I want to do with the belt and scabbard yet. Since this is for a tabletop game I'm probably not going to get too fancy.  I'm going to repaint the front cloth with 9418 Oceanic Blue and highlight it with the 9419 Tropical Blue that's on it.  Any suggestions or comments would be more than welcome!

I love this mini! It is one of my favorites of the ones I have painted! Glad to see someone else giving it a go...and with a much different color choice. Looks great so far!

It's been a busy week so I haven't been able to get anything done until this morning.  Here is where he stands as of now:

 

 

 

I'm about to head out of town for the weekend so I won't get to work on him this weekend.  My plan is to work on all the details next week and get his axe attached and painted by at least the end of next weekend.

So that whole planning thing didn't work out at all.  I finally got some work done this weekend.  This is where he currently stands:

 

 

 

 

 

I'll probably hit the skin with another layer, touch up a couple of spots, then attach the axe.

I would give the leather parts a little brown wash for depth.

Then highlight again after that.

So I made the mistake of attaching the axe before painting it:

 

 

I wasn't thinking about having to get in the nooks and crannies on the backside of the hands.  Getting all the way around the bracer on his left arm was a pain.  I wasn't able to get it as detailed as I would like but I made it decent enough to be on the table top.

 

 

I'll paint the fur pieces, give the wrapping a dirty brown wash and highlight, do some highlighting on the bracers and bracelet, then I think I'll be done with him.  I didn't realize the block on the tail end of the axe was supposed to be removed until I was looking at some pics in the Inspiration Gallery.  I think it makes a good counter weight though.  I think I'll get another one of these at some point and give it another go.
