I have been itching to do this mini since I saw it in the catalogue, and then my son sent it to me !

Now that I have done a Tom Meier miniature again, I have earned the pleasure of painting this one.

I did a slight mod when I was assembling it.  I did not like the right arm so low to the ground, looked like he

was running, I raised the arm up so that he looks like he is fighting.  I think it has a bit more tension in it.

Here is "The Dragonkin Rogue" prior to priming or adding brown liner.  Just a couple of views.

Some of these details are VERY shallow, almost hints.  I love the folds in the materials.  I am thinking of

some rich, and deep blues in those shadows, and lighter blues for highlights.

Beyond that, strap on your seat belts.

Very cool mini!!!

Any ideas yet on what color the dragon itself will be?

I'm leaning towards a tarnished copper color (in the greens area).

Might change once I see the blues develop !

Are you going to use metallic paints?

I mix so many colors together sometimes, that I might use some copper in there, but I'm thinking more on the green you see on old old penny's, brass coinage.  Its a very unique green, but if a metallic might help, I'm sure to toss it in.

Could always use metallic drybrushing to hit the areas that would see the most light. It looks pretty cool when you do that over a color. Just a very light dry-brush of a metallic of your choice.

I finally got him dry and primed.

I then went nuts with my brown liner.  I really love this stuff.

I use it as my discover color.  Once this goes on, all the little details show up.

Oh, a Note:  If you see flashes of what looks like metal, it isn't, it is the gray primer I use from Vallejo.

Everyone has a way to apply their liner of choice, I am a strict brown liner person, since I know how to

use it to my advantage as I apply color.  It also helps me greatly with my shadow color.

So here is the Dragonkin Rogue Primed and lined, awaiting my next bout of insanity !

Well, among all the things I got accomplished today, I managed to get two Norwegian lessons done, and a couple hours into the mini. He was pinned this morning (very touching ceremony (ROFL), and then I started the shadow layers, and got them worked up to a really nice dark blue.  Now I can start laying in mid-tones over the raised parts and blend it all together.  This may turn into a study in blue's for a while as I work around the whole figure.  Haven't decided what I am going to do with the apron in front, nor the armor.  I'm still keeping to that copper Green for the dragon kin right now.  My head is playing games with that color at this point.. "what if's" are a lot of fun to experiment mentally with !

So here he is "In Shadow).

I'm working up the courage to clip off the broccoli base sometime tomorrow.  Such a delicate move.

Wanted to add a comment on the Green I mentioned as the dragonkin rogue color.

I'm NOT talking about a metallic.  I should mention that I collect Roman coins as another hobby,

but only the brass ones.  If you look up on the web "Tarnished brass or copper coins" images you will see photos of the green I am referencing.

Has NOTHING to do with the metal.  Its a bit like Peacock Green from Reaper, but lighter in color.

Jay.

I can mix up a color similar to that one.

I very rarely buy colors that I would use out of the drop bottle.

I prefer mixing my own.

But that is exactly the color I want to use, and then lighter highlights.
