Questions about OTT Lights

So as I am gathering things together to take to Reapercon, one of the things I pretty much need is a travel light....

I am looking at Ott lights, because I love how they work at home on my painting desk, and I have seen most of the members of NEMPA bring them to paint days....

So I am looking on the River site at the OttLite 290089 LED Handheld Task Lamp, and am wondering

A- can I also use an AC adapter power source with this? (The page lists on in the bought together, but it is from Nokia? )

B- are the little LED lights better than / worse than / equal to the 13w fluorescent bulb in the OttLite 515003 Battery Task Lamp model?

So opinions and experiences with these, or recommendations for others, would be awesome!

Thanks!

George

I have an OttLite 290089, and it puts out a good amount of light, but nothing like my 100W-equivalent daylight fluorescent bulbs do.  If you're in a lighted room, and just need a light for close-up work, the LED task light works well enough.

Advantage of the LEDs is the long battery life you'll get from 4 AAs.  IIRC, it would get 7+ hours from rechargeable batteries.  It does work on a 6V adapter.  I don't have the Nokia adapter you note, but had an old Nokia cell phone adapter lying around.

I don't know if you consider this portable, but it's what i'll be bringing.

I got an Ottlite for Christmas a couple years ago. Mom bought it for me because of my art - it's supposed to really show you the real colors of whatever you're working on. It's freaking awesome. Really bright and clear but it doesn't hurt my eyes.

ALSO, it has actually lasted 2-3 years and is still going strong.

Highly recommended. Worth the investment.

I have several of these: OttLite 290G59 Battery-Operated LED Mobile Task Lamp, Black which uses three AAA batteries but has a connection for a DC power supply (also 4.5V).

I love them! They are portable and light weight! I would definitely recommend bringing your own lights.
