oh no! It's BRYAN again.  Drat.  ::P:

(no, of course you're not a toad!  You're my favorite Reaperpeep.  Er... don't tell the other Reaperpeeps.  They might take away my cookies!)

yeah- if I look nervous it's probably because I am!  ::D:

Last RCon I definitely did not Bug any of the artist at their stations.  I really took too much onto my plate in regards to technique.  There is a lot of info out there, and I didn't know where to start or what questions to ask.  I want to get better and asking how can I get better is too general of a question.  What I learned by focusing on NMM through out last year, is that it helped to give me a better understanding of other techniques and how they apply to my work.  While I didn't get all the classes I wanted, I did get a few to help me in areas I am mostly ignorant in.  I figure I can bring or buy a figure or two to practice what I what to learn and ask some of the artists this year (if I can break through my approach anxiety).

If you don't come at least talk to me for a few minutes, watch out 'cause I'll probably go hunt you down!  :;):  After all, with the way your minis have been turning out lately, I'm sure you'll be teaching me a thing or two!

Corporea is probably the sweetest person you'll ever meet, she doesn't bite... hard.  ::P:

Oh, I agree totally.  I remember her fondly last RCon.

If it helps I'm actually an introvert and probably just as scared about talking!  ::D:  Plus I have this nagging fear that I actually can't paint or teach and you all will figure it out...

It does.  While I can completely empathize with both being an introvert and feeling I can't paint, I can attest to the fact that you paint beautifly and teach great (having taken 2 of your classes last year).  I was sad that I missed out on your Flesh and Faces class this year.

   Thanks,  See its comments like this that make me empathize with Corporea.  Looking forward to talking with you again as well.

technically I'm an INFP.

I get this deep fulfillment from helping people.  But, the act of being in crowds and using my social face is exhausting.  So yes, I'll act completely normal.  I'll just crash afterwards! But I tell myself it's good to step outside of my comfort zone and try new things, and it always makes me feel better in the long run to help.

To expand on this, and mention something that I did not entirely figure out on my own until I'd be in the hobby for some years -

Pretty much all of the artists at ReaperCon (and likely elsewhere) are geeks, nerds, introverts, etc. - just like you guys. Some are to more of a degree and some to lesser - just like you guys.

The fact that the artists have a greater degree of knowledge and experience with painting and/or sculpting has no bearing on their social skills or level of geeknitude. Some of us have been attending conventions or teaching classes long enough to have developed a bit of a public persona or to feel more comfortable in those situations than you might, but again, that's practice, not personality.

I'm saying that for two reasons. One is to try to reduce the intimidation factor. We literally are there to teach and talk to people, and we paint/sculpt because we love miniatures, just as you do. The second reason I mention it is to remind you that we may also be nervous, or prone to social gaffes. If we miss you hovering slightly to one side hoping to catch our eye, or get caught up in a second conversation and forget to come back to the question you asked, or do something else a little socially inept, it's because we're also geeky and mess up social interactions sometimes, NOT because we're snobbish or elitist and don't really want to talk to you.

This is also a good time to mention that we are in a hobby where people look down at their work to do it, and often do so wearing face-obscuring magnifiers. Typically that posture is is a 'go away' social cue, so it is natural to feel awkward about interrupting someone in that pose. But if you see us working like that at our tables, please remember that we're not trying to avoid social interaction, we're just puttering away at something in between talking to people.

I vote this as the best post in this thread!

For those of you who are going to be first time attendees, like myself, I recommend joining the hangouts at some point. It is a way that I have come to meet quite a few folks that will be attending, as well as one of my instructors! (Hi Talespinner!)

And what Wren said is true, they are just like me!

I think that it is going to make speaking to the instructors, as well as all of the rest of you folks alot easier for me, and I will be quite a bit less self concious while I am doing it....

And Geeknitude, such a great word....

Thanks Wren!
