I like this idea. I've already posted my first few minis here awhile ago but I might post them for this thread as well, but it will have to wait until after Gencon because my most recent one that I'm fairly pleased with is going to be in the Gencon painting contest.

 

I was planning on making a show off thread when I got back. Should I repost the picture here as well or just link to the other thread?

I'd do both, have your own show-off thread and post both pics of your first few minis and your most recent GenCon entry when you can. Maybe just edit your post in here with a place holder to be added later.

Oh you guys, this thread is lovely! I love seeing progression like this and seeing everyone so proud of their art.

 

I've only painted a few minis, but maybe after those ReaperCon classes I'll post here.

I began painting in the late 70's with 15mm Heritage ACW figures.  Sadly, I sold off that collection in the mid 80's, so I have no examples of my first figures.  However, shortly after starting with the Heritage 15mm figures, I started purchasing some of their 25mm Fantasy stuff, which corresponded with me getting into a D&D group in High School.   I do have a few of these still in my collections.  While the thief is a pretty straight forward  paint job, the knight must have been one of my first uses of a black wash.

 

 

 

Back in 2013, when my Bones 1 Kickstreater arrived I started a blog to chronicle my efforts in painting the figures from the KS, and set my self the goal of painting every single figure that I had received, and posting about it.  While, my painting has greatly improved over the intervening decades, I also thought it would be fun to look how far I've come in the three years since I started  the blog.  Here are two from the first full month of painting the Bones 1 Kickstarter back in July of 2013.

 

 

 

And here we are today.  There's not a lot of noticeable difference over the past three years.  A bit more attention to highlighting I think. And for humans, I think my faces have improved.

 

 

 

 I've been painting now for over 40 years, and still find there's room to grow and improve.  But that's part of the fun!

My very first set of minis, Woodland Adventurers from 1982 or 83.  I'm pretty sure I was mixing colors. Testors enamels, of course.

Best...hard to say. Probably Rollo, I love a lot of the textures I got; the rusty tmm on the scabbard, the worn leather.

Vallejo Model Air metallics, lots of glazing with shadow colors. Basically I took what I learned from NMM and used metallic paint for my mids and highs, glazing with non-metallics for the shadows. Then some thin highlights with metallics to put wear/scratches on edges.

 

Too bad about the forum troubles of 2014 of which we shall not speak. I usually document all this info here pretty well. So much good info has been lost over the last couple years.

Hilariously, I have a comparison shot already displaying one of my first models and another copy of the same, painted a year later. I've been painting I think about 16 months now. More recent is on the left.
