Base Boss by Reaper

So far I just threw $20 at Reaper and told them their base mix is awful.  :;):  I figure I'll get some slotted 1" rounds and flight pegs plus a few large ovals, at the very least.

We'll see how long that pledge can stay firm.  I do still have quite a few bases from Bones 2, because I paint slowly and don't always re-base monsters.

I dropped $30 so far and found some of the bigger bases that I do not have already.  Even went with some of the bigger ovals in hopes they work with my daughters fire dragon and others around that size.  The mm sizing throws me off and i kept using a converter on google to give me the inches and thinking "that should be good for a 15x15 encounter.  Even though none of these are being used for gaming that could change in the near future if I get her hooked on actually playing D&D.

I've never understood the appeal of the round-lip bases over thematic edged bases. My preference is thematic bases with edges reflective of the theme, or a sharp dropoff like the bases in this Kickstarter.

Although, I am genuinely curious what aesthetic aspects appeal to those that like round-lip bases? Is it the visual separation and change of texture?

Is there some redeeming quality of round-lip bases I'm overlooking?

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "thematic edged", but I will admit I don't like the wide rounded edge of some bases.  Takes up a lot of real estate on the table and it's actually really hard to pick them up by the base.  I thought they were standard for a specific table top game and that was the reason for them.

So far I like the new bases with the sharp angle and just a little lip to hold stuff in place.

The price points for these are fantastic, and dangerous!! :O My brain keeps going "Ooo, these are only $2, and several of these are only $4, and I could get a few of the gigantic ones for only $7!!!! :bday: "

Which is why my choices currently add up to nearly $50.

I need to narrow down my choices quite a bit, since we really don't have an extra $50 lying around. $25, maaaaaybe $30 might be okay, though.

My "must-haves" are all the clear things, and a few of the very biggest round and oval bases, to use for either my really big minis or for dioramas in the future. ^_^

Then I guess I'll just have to settle for being the base penultimate boss.  :upside:
