TheAuldGrump
The kids are dealing with the problem of a 150' deep hole, and only having 50' of rope.... The wizard's solution is to cast Feather Fall on the front line fighters, because splitting the party is always fun!* The Auld Grump * For the GM.

There was a Knights of the Dinner Table comic about this exact thing years ago. The DM had a Gelatinous Cube down at the bottom of the pit, so the character fell gently and slowly down into a slow oozing dissolution starting with his feet.

Speaking of, last session for me continued Rahasia, and the players went into the teleporter in the temple's dining room that sends you 15 feet above a swamp north of the temple, essentially used for food disposal. It was a comical scene, as the players on their march back to the temple spent some presdigitation to clean up and save face. After the fact some players told me they were kind of scared the receiving area would be a small 10ft by 10ft room with just a gelatinous cube occupying all of it.
Loim
I love Rakshasa, but I'm always trepidatious about using them because unless the party handles them well they can go through a party like no one's business. Fun monsters though.

Fun monsters though. Was that a response to me? I'm running Rahasia, an old Basic D&D module by Tracy and Laura Hickman. It has nothing to do with Rakshasa. I'm... not really sure how I would use Rakshasa, to be honest.

Pathfinder also has part of its campaign setting where a crashed space ship allows for all sorts of magitech stuff happening. They even did an AP based there. It's the country of Numeria, and the AP is called Iron Gods. An AI from the ship creates other AIs, who then create a cult, in an attempt to ascend to godhood. They released a rules splatbook called the Technology Guide to cover all sorts of that stuff. You could also mine the old D&D module Expedition to the Barrier Peaks, because it's the original and what Numeria as a whole was based on. Again, it's a crashed spaceship and lots of high tech stuff being introduced to a fantasy world. Edited March 9, 2017 by Unruly
DocPiske
This is probably old news to many, but I just found this site and while I don't agree with everything he writes it is still interesting (some pseudo-foul language): http://angrydm.com/2014/09/dear-wotc-why-do-you-suck-at-selling-games/

Crazy thing is... it's true. The Force. The Jedi... All of it... It's all true.

I was reading through the responses while working up some information for our next game, and reading your response made me think of Rakshasa. So, yes and no :).

I think a real stumbling block is that you can't really make a character until you know how to play the game and an RPG is going to be a lot more compelling when you can make you own character. In my case the biggest flaw was that I had given one of my nieces a pregen character that didn't interact super well with the included adventure. I'd say that you really need a simplified game, especially the character creation, if you want people to boostrap themselves into playing. Crowley
Yup. For example, see the Moldvey Basic D&D red box vs anything that came out for AD&D. Pretty sure that box alone got more people playing D&D... and it was pretty much exactly what the Angry DM says needs to be in a box.
