Of course, just because my notes say that Mephistopheles is being played by William Powell does not mean that the PCs don't think that he is being played by Jack Nicholson from The Witches of Eastwick.... The Auld Grump - I based him on a cross between Mr. Sardonicus and Nick Charles.... Mostly Nick Charles...

Then the week after, the food that buccaneers were named for! Barbecue! Seriously, there used to be a barbecue sauce with the slogan 'Cause Buccaneer Means Barbecue!' - and they were telling the truth - a buccan is a grill, and the buccaneers were the folks that used those grills.... It made me smile. :D The Auld Grump I've always heard that the meat prepared on a buccan was more analogous to jerky than BBQ, with the buccan being more like a smokehouse than a grill. BlazingTornado
Today was the adventure where a wizard's dark rituals unleashed aberrations galore in his tower, warped him, warped most of his apprentices... Was fun. Intellect devourer at the end ended up leaving the beastmaster ranger with 0 intelligence. Fortunately the player had something to do in the meantime thanks to the giant wolf spider beast companion. And also thankfully, the Cleric had a Necklace Of Prayer Beads and ONE of those beads, the only greater one on the necklace, happened to be a Greater Restoration bead. Other fun moments included the beastmaster ranger spotting the oubliette on the ground floor and deciding to take a look in it, disturbing a horrid spider-like creature and almost getting killed by it... Chokers scoring two crits, almost killing the kobold NPC ally and the beastmaster's spider. The hunter ranger getting charmed TWICE. Lightbringer the sentient +1 light-shedding mace being temporarily drained of magic by a Gauth and leaving the party in relative darkness. A Gazer nearly sending the cleric flying over the top of the tower with its telekinesis ray.

[Begin grumpy old man mode] Eh, you young kids have it so easy - back in my day we had no classes in how to do funny voices! We had to do it all ourselves, even if it meant that we needed to come up with a voice when we wrote down Charlie Chaplain as the voice for a character! Back in my day we didn't even have dice! We'd just hit each other with sticks until the combat was over! There were bleeding, broken gamers all over the place! And we liked it that way! 'Cause we were stupid! (Eight kids, twelve adults - maybe more, since the folks in Megan's writing group are also interested.) Waiting on one of the folks for the Paranormal Romance game right now.... The Auld Grump - kids like pirates, but sometimes the kids are a bit older.... Three of my players went to the exhibit in full pirate regalia... and they weren't the kids.... (SCAdians... they always have costumes, and are not afraid to wear them in public. And for the record - Jon, at a bit over six and a half feet tall, with ginger hair - is a pretty impressive pirate.) The Auld Grump - and Samantha is now thinking about a Pirates Kingdoms of Men army for Kings of War - so she can have two armies, and play with others. (The other is Forces of Nature - she is already putting the army together, getting it one or two pieces at a time.)

This isn't a problem unless the PCs do remember the voice you gave him.
TheAuldGrump
Sam is going to be dangerous when she gets older - one of the rangers just had a big brawl with 'Owlbear' - a big, dumb fighter type - with the other pirates betting on the outcome. (The ranger is a dwarf, and Humanoid [Human] is his favored enemy.) The ranger allowed Owlbear to back off, and Sam's witch offered to heal him - telling everyone that it was going to be slow, since she is just learning... and then cast both Charm Person and Cure Light Wounds on Owlbear.... She is very, very fond of Charm Person, I'm afraid.... Next up - the gnome is going to be singled out for a flogging. (If he had been a fighter type, then I would have had him being the one to fight Owlbear - Biggest vs. Smallest and all that.... But an alchemist vs. a fighter in a bare knuckle fight? Not going to be fun for the alchemist.) The Auld Grump

Also, next week, the rest of the players get back.... Back up to a full crew of a dozen.... Oy! The Auld Grump - I'm surrounded and outnumbered! *EDIT* Wow, putting in 'Rumble, rumble, rumble!
