Cretacea: The game of gargantuan survival (Dinosaurs!!!!!)

Recommended Posts

I was little surprised not to find a post about this one:

Cretacea: The game of gargantuan survival

It is a rule set to play skirmish games with Dinosaurs.

Sadly no minis. It is 1:100, but I'm sure it should be possible for 28-32mm, too.

Fight to survive the time of the cretaceous with this unique and fast flowing skirmish rule set, designed to emulate real dinosaurs!

Have to give the creator credit that he took a subject that he was passionate about and developed a game around it.

I don't think a game about dinosaurs fight dinosaurs is really for me, although I have collected quite a few Dino figures that are more or less in scale with 28-32mm minis. (Papo is my preferred goto for large dinos)

I'm more a Weird West/Pulp/Modern (Jurassic Park) meets dinosaurs gone wild kinda guy.

I agree.

Dinosaurs are some of my favorite creatures, but I won't play games with them.

About that last remark, take a little look at my Lost World WIP, maybe there's something there you like.

Arthur Charles is a good guy and actually making a go of it as a full-time painter and game designer.  He's the inspiration behind my Granny Grating LOTR project.  He's worth supporting even if only for the PDF.

OMG!  Jason Weibe helped create the new Dwarven line being released on Kickstarter by Tomb Guardians!  These minis look so cool and they are cheap!  I haven't seen anyone post about this yet but here is the link.  It starts tomorrow morning.  They also said Bobby Jackson and Gene Van Horne created there monsters in the set.  Cant wait.   I purchased there Amazons and they were fantastic!  I posted some pics.  Im assuming the Fire Demon and add ons are in Resin.

Queen Titania will be cast in resin, 15 part kit, coming with a textured base. At an impressive 160mm height to the tip of the horns she towers over mere mortals on your battlefield unleashing nature's wrat
      h!
The kit can be assembled in two variants: with an ornate bikini armor or savagely topless.

      A Note on Metal
We moving onto a lead free high quality pewter from a reputable metal dealer.  All our past metals had a high Tin content, but could contain a small quantity of lead (typically no more than 5%).  Even still, we cannot guarantee that any of our metal will be entirely lead free.

Where several of the other Lost Valley dino-beasts have extra fantasy elements to them, such as extra horns. spiney ridges, a third digit on the vestigial front limbs and such, this one is just about picture perfectly based on a real dinosaur: The Carnotaurus.

The Carnotaurus lived at some point during the Late Cretaceous period, that lasted from about 100 million to 66 million years ago. There have been found several fossils with bones and skin impressions that show scales, ridges and bumps in the hide. No sign of feathers though.
The fossils are all found in South America, which was part of the supercontinent southern Gondwanaland when these critters existed.
This is the only raptor-like predatory dino we know of that had horns on the skull, looking like very sharp eyebrows more than anything else really.

This model was originally released in metal some years ago, which might explain the difference in design philosophy ("real dinosaur" vs "fantasy dinosaur"). Now it also exists in Bones Black in the Lost Valley.

This mini was finished August 18th 2020.
