Silly putty or Blue Tack for masking.

Recommended Posts

I use poster tack when I'm airbrushing camo on my CAV models. In my experience the residue isn't a huge issue if you don't leave it on for too long. BUT, make sure you don't apply your paint too thick in a single layer because you will get a lip/ridge that is prone to coming up with the putty, exposing the bare figure where it comes away.

You can also use Vallejo Liquid Mask.

I dislike it honestly, I often have a hard time getting it on perfect, it smells awful and removing it can be difficult sometimes. Right now I want something I can easily just mush in place, paint and then remove without any trouble, liquid mask takes some finesse and time to apply and all.

Seeing as I use it all the time when I build scale models, I'll suggest Micro Mask by Microscale Industries.  It paints on with a brush, has no smell, dries quickly and is fairly easy to get off.
