Dilvish the Deliverer
Great news! Now, if only they can get the people behind the "you are eligible for government grant" people who call 4-12 times a day.
dwarvenranger
Good. My sister in law just got targeted by one of these scams.
Gadgetman!
Nice! But the Indian authorities haven't bothered to take this seriously before. Who, with enough political clout, got scammed this time? Edited October 6, 2016 by Gadgetman!
CashWiley
Great news! Now, if only they can get the people behind the "you are eligible for government grant" people who call 4-12 times a day. Or the 'Windows Technical Network' folks. Or the homeowner something or other folks. I block them as they come in, but now I answer any unfamiliar area code with an Indian accent. I actually got the last guy to give me information about his Windows install. Another guy thought he had dialed his friend's number by mistake. There's a part of me that enjoys these calls, though I'm never rude or disrespectful (at the end of the day, the guy on the phone is just trying to put food on the table, even if it's shady af).
Gadgetman!
I managed to hol up one Indian 'Microsoft Support' guy for half an hour while he tried to guide me onto the internet and to the TeamViewer website... First I had an old keyboard without the Windows Key... Then I didn't have Internet Explorer, could I use Netwcape Navigator instead? Then 'The site tells me it doesn't support my PC... Do you have another one that works with OS/2'? It was fun to ride home from work on the bus that day... Remember, the longer you keep them on the line the less time they have to bother or trick someone else.
Kheprera
I tend to not answer unfamiliar or un-identified numbers, so I miss getting to "Oh, IRS huh? Let me clarify; Hello, Internal Revenue Service, Learning and Education... please hold while I contact Criminal Investigations."
Ghool
I've gotten two of these calls up here in Canada so far. And several of the 'Technical Support' about my Windows PC. I think it's if your number is listed, and/or published. My land line is both listed and published, and I get scam calls like this all the time. I didn't get any when my number was unlisted or unpublished. You can do both through your phone service provider. All it does is remove your name and number from phone databases. Thus, it helps prevent these scams. But, it does cost a few bucks a month to do-so. I'm glad some one finally got caught for this though. If you keep them on the line long enough, and keep pestering them with questions, they eventually just hang up. I've had four calls like this (2 CRA, and 2 Tech Support) so far, and gave them such a run-around, they've hung up on me every time. CashWiley
Oh, no, they'll sometimes do more than hang up. I've had a few get really angry and start swearing loudly at me. Which was much funnier, to be honest.
ub3r_n3rd
Oh, no, they'll sometimes do more than hang up. I've had a few get really angry and start swearing loudly at me. Which was much funnier, to be honest. I purposely try to get them raging mad. And then laugh my elf off at them. It makes them hang up fast. I mock them or call them names or act stupid asking how my Mac is doing that. All sorts of antics as I enjoy hearing their frustration and anger.
LittleBluberry
Hopefully this sends the message that there is an actual risk of serving jail time for these scams. Even if it just slows them down, it's a start.

Doug's Workshop
I actually told one of these scammers I needed him to hold on the line for a few minutes while "we run a trace on this phone call." It was on my cell, so the autodialer these goobers use just randomly puts numbers in until they get a hit. One morning one of these scammers called ("Microsoft support") and I lit into him. My son got an earful of new language. Afterwards, he asked "Daddy, what's a 'scam'?" He thought that the Incredible Hulk should go teach them not to steal money from people. Can't say I disagree.
