FPilot
I've been fortunate to come across a pair of Russian made mecha for a game called "Astroid". Joe Miller, at the Comic Store, on his return from GAMA, brought back a few of these guys, and gave me a blister to check out. First off, these guys are in plastic but the detail is top notch; they look like a cross between Space Marines and Transformers. (they got heads like Octimus Prime) the data cards (although written in Russian) are baseball card size with a few numbers and an armor hit system, simular to battletech. the difference is, hit location is determined by a 6SD and theres a simple point scale they use. Head can take 2-4 damage, each arm 2-4 damage, legs about 6 damage, depending on the Mecha of course. The stats are written in Russian, but I think I can figure them out too. MAMOHT (Mammoth?) Ctonmoctb 42 (42 tons?) Ckopoctb = 5 (Cockpit? Piloting?) 3aMNta = 3 (Armor?) Ctpenb6a = 5/1 (pistol in right hand/ punch?) Cnna Atakm = 4 (have no clue, maybe targeting or initiative?) na3yt4nk (?) Ctonmoctb 29 (29 tons?) Ckopoctb = 5 (Cockpit? Piloting?) 3aMNta = 2 (Armor?) Ctpenb6a = 4/3 (pistol in right hand/ punch?) Cnna Atakm = 2 (have no clue, maybe targeting or initiative?) Anyway, looks interesting. the blister comes with a 6 sided dice. probably plays out simular to CAV using a 6sd instead of a 10sd. possibly moving the mecha individually, as opposed to to sections. Anybody could enlighten me, by all means, now I'm off to find a link Okay, I just Jacked the Union Jack, downloaded the PDF rules, then copy-and-pasted them to a .doc file to clean it up and make it a more manageable two pages. Giving the rules a once over... Ctonmoctb 42 This is the Robot's Point Value, for game balancing Ckopoctb = 5 This is the Robot's Speed...how far it can move per turn, in increments of 5cm/2". 3aMNta = 3 I'm guessing this is Armor/Defense level. Good Call. Ctpenb6a = 5/1 This is Firing/weapons stats. First number is Range, in 5cm increments. Second number is level of firepower. Cnna Atakm = 4 This is Attack Strength, for hand-to-hand action. Attack resolution: Attacker's power plus 1D6 versus Target's Armor plus 1D6. Ties go to Attacker. All attacks do full damage. Each Robot only gets one ranged attack per turn. This is perhaps the simplest Giant Robot game I've ever seen.
FPilot
PS: I just added a new YahooGroup devoted to Astroid: Astroiders America Everybody here is welcome to join! Not much there now but I'll have more stuff in soon.
KAMUT
Thanks for finding this info out, I already signed into the groups, and am actively monitering the messages; even if I seem a bit silent. I'm taking my time trying to paint these Russian Mecha, afterall, still got a lot of CAV stuff i'm polishing up while I wait for production to get back on track. FPilot
I heard news today that IMEX is now the US distributor for ASTROID and it will be released at the end of this summer.
FPilot
Some News: I went to IMEX's website overnight and saw that they'll release Robogear Battles (another Tehnolog game) in August. No word on ASTROID, tho'.
FPilot
ASTROID kits are now listed on the Phoenix-Model website (the mail-order retail arm of IMEX), although they aren't shown as being "in stock". Perhaps they might be available for preorder. The two-robot booster sets will retail for about $5 while the four-robot starter sets will run about $8.50. I consider this very competitive versus MWDA. Lord Pravage
WOOHOO! it looks like I was right all this time on the translation.. (reference my post on the first page) Cool
FPilot
Maybe Reaper will hire you to translate CAV to Russian so they can sell it in Eurasia.
Lord Pravage
LOL Fpilot. I hope I would be able to translate it. How could I face my Moscow-based Terran legion if i couldn't. Then again, I believe that the Thunderbird is probably the most 'Russian' looking CAV in the game. Looks like Russian Engineering to me!
