I don't think there needed to be more painting events myself.  Half the fun is to just hang out and paint, and practice what you have learned.  That's what I planned and did--it was my regret from the other year when I didn't hang out in that area, but ended up more in the boardgames.  The lack of paint only hindered this for me.

I have learned that one bottle of Coke per 1.75 liters of Kraken is sufficient.

I learned that I need to get at least one RCon entry finished early so when I screw up my planned entry days before the con, I have something decent to enter.

I have learned that if I'm running demo games, I won't have time for any RPG events.

I have learned the basics of shaded metallic and painting expressive faces, and now I just have to practice.

Izzy has learned that when I say I can't sing, I mean I REALY can't sing. I could see the relief on everyone's faces after I sat down after Molly Malone.

I have been taught How Not to Suck at Sculpting. Only time will tell if I have learned it.

The painting things ill go over later, however at some point, I threw away the new files I bought.

I learned to not do that.

Also, 3 drinks are good. 4 or more is fine when I don't have class the next morning.

Did the squid bite you????

more later....

Not that her husband knows about...

I learned that you're all nuts.

But it's the same sort of nuts as me, so that works out okay.

I learned that wolves snore and like rum. That ub3r and Haldir cosplay as normals really well.

I pushed greenstuff around, and it wasn't a disaster. I learned that I need to work on my mold line cleanup, and how to paint expressive eyes. Now to see if I can actually do it. I learned that I need a better way of securing my hamster. I'm thinking maybe a harness. And that I need to bring a backpack.

I learned that lists help only when I look at them.

Seconding on having other entries ready! Or on time.....

Artists~! I mostly talked to Izzy and the sculptors, but I learned that they don't bite, and they have a lot to teach! Everyone is also very kind. It was a relaxing Sunday morning - I picked a table right next to the artist row and caught little bits of conversation drifting by as I practiced my sculpting. So many kind words and encouraging advice.

I bugged Andy the most, haha. I tried sculpting fur, which taught me three lessons: what happens when my layer is too thin, when I start trying to add detail too soon, and when my sculpting tool isn't lubricated enough.

Derek's class was also surprisingly easy to follow. Just gotta get the practice in now!

Izzy can sing in accents and pirates and it's GLORIOUS.

I learned that I miss my art family a whole, whole lot....

Did you ask them to bite you? I'm sure some of them would have if you'd just asked...

I learned that if you turn off on 121N and head west on Bellaire, then tuck around behind the Taco Hut through the parking lot, you can avoid the big loop that the navigation system wants to take you on.

I learned the location of an In N Out, which nearly every ex-CA resident will tell you was a necessity.

Hmm. What else. I learned that there is always a fix, and I should go ahead with plans when they pop into my head. There usually is some nugget on there and I should just keep going.

So, for me. I have determined that workrshops are what I need more than 2 hour classes. I certainly will take some for sure, but I am at point that practice is more important than specific classes. I am going to go back and practice more of the basics (never hurts)--blending (which I can do fine), lining (can get better).

Well, despite all lessons learned, I had hoped this would lean more to the paint side of things than life lessons. I could go on for a long time about how I learned that Dallas highways suck in design.

Shaded metallics from Clever Crow and feathering from Anne were my big things.. now I know why my fold highlights and shadows looked horrible and can fix them..

Learning some additional things I can do on wings and scales from Rhonda.. and I wet blended!

I need to do much better on big models for the MSP than I do on small models because it it much more apparent where flaws are on big models..

Regarding new skills I learned that....

... my blending and coverage is better than I thought it was.  Happy day!

... I have zero technique regarding light source (though the judges put it much nicer) so that is going to be my biggest area to research and improve.

... when using natural materials for basing, you should still put paint on them!  Thanks Heisler for that tip, because it came up as a positive when I spoke to judges.

Life lessons & 'Con people I learned that ...

... it didn't kill me to show Jason Wiebe what I did to his sculpt, no matter how nervous I was.  Likewise talking to the amazing judges.

... yes, Morihalda is really that cute IRL - and I mean personality-wise as well as looks.

... NO, her awesome husband is not entirely quiet and sweet.  He can get positively evil during adult card games.

... Ub3rnerd is really fastidious for a barbarian.

... Sailors have the best stories (thanks Dilvish & Chaoswolf)

Your very welcome. I don't even remember which ones I told you, Frank... ::P:

I've learned how not to suck at sculpting; hands on practice at sculpting; how to make an inspiring base; how to make blood, pus and guts. (i.e. classes)

I've learned that when I play 3 hour long RPGs, I don't have time to participate in more painting activities, nor boardgames, nor Reaper tours.

I've learned that though the shuttle is nice, getting a ride with someone is better as we can stay later at the con.

I've learned that even the professional artists think that Derek Schubert's level of talent is unnatural.

I've learned from the contest that I could get a certificate of merit/medal in every category if I bring something for every category.

I've learned that there are after hour parties at the HGI fire pit.

I've learned that tool licking is common, even among the pros (sorry Pingo), even if I'm not in the habit myself.

And most importantly:

I've learned that ReaperCon is totally worth returning to.
