About this project

To get Shadow expansion, you will need to pledge at least one faction box. 

The Edge: Dawnfall is new miniature Board Game by Awaken Realms for 1-4 players. Created by Michał Oracz (man behind 13 years of Neuroshima Hex and recent hit Cry Havoc) it brings next level of competitive gameplay to the table. Fresh, exciting, pure and rewarding.

Game features six asymmetric factions with customization options, each with different set of units as well as cinematic spells and skills. It is played on two boards: conflict board where you resolve battles and campaign map where you can follow rich scenarios, learn the story and impact your world.

This game is created for 1-4 players.  

With 1 faction box you can play against a Darkness faction controlled by the game. (although for full experience you will need another faction box to play a player vs player mode).  

With 2 faction boxes (or conflict box), you can play with 2 players (1vs1) and co-op versus a Darkness faction controlled by the game.  

With 4 faction boxes (or 2 conflict box), you can play with 4 players (2vs2 or free-for-all) and co-op versus Darkness faction controlled by the game.

The Edge: Dawnfall will offer 6 faction, each with different story, gameplay and amazing, high quality plastic models.

Presented models are 3D renders - final models will be made of plastic, this can result in a slightly lower quality although we will do our best to provide top quality. Please also note, that the reviewers received resin prototypes.

Haha. Half of me is curious what prompted this correction, and the other half wants to see 22 meter tall "miniatures".

It's a board game version of The Edge wargame.

 

I'm in this for now because the minis are really cool. I'm at one conflict box, and might add another, but man does the price seem really expensive. The add-ons are all in resin, and I'm not going to be willing to pay the prices they're asking for those, which is a shame. Those boss minis are great, but I'm not spending $70-something on them.

I may go in for a Resin Reborn set and then see what damage i can do in the PM with other resins..

They've redone the pledge levels for this campaign, Now, if you get a conflict box, you also get an additional faction box. If you get the Dawnfall pledge you get two sets of each faction. They've also begun adding new models as social stretch goals, looks like there will be one for each faction (Chapter is already unlocked and Reborn is the current goal). It's still expensive, but a much better value than it was before, and they're really taking the time to listen to everyone and re-evaluate. It might be worth taking another look.

I actually feel worse about this KS after the restructuring.  Yes, it's a better deal.  But they are giving 50% more content at the same price and that makes me question if they are going to be able to really pay the bills.  It seems like a kneejerk reaction to losing pledges early in the campaign.

Honestly it's cheaper for them since they are already having the mold made.. to make additional figures from molds they already paid for works better for them in terms of scale I would think

I'm still not following that logic though.  They haven't eliminated any sculpts, have they?  So their mold costs haven't changed at all if that's the case.  And they are still adding stretch goals (as social goals, not funding goals), so that's added cost that isn't being raised to pay for it.  Maybe I'm just confused by the whole thing.  I didn't feel like they explained it very well.  Anyone want to explain it to me?

Allow me now that the campaign has finished and no-one answered your question. The costs remain the same, nothing drops. So, how can this be happening you ask?

Just have a look at the price structure of this project. They ask for a funding target of 40K GBP in order to fund 40 different miniatures in plastic, none of which exists for the time being (i.e. all new molds need be made). Then take a look at their first 5-6 "stretch goals", which they revealed only after they had reached something like 150K GBP due to the initial rush (give or take, I don't remember the exact number). The creators say they need 20K GBP in order to now fund...a single miniature. And from what I've seen it's the same mini placed four times (I may be wrong as I stopped following this, we study succesful KS projects to learn how to do better in ours but honestly we don't like this type of structure and will never endorse it). Yeah, OK, anyway. Their funding issue has been solved.

 

Bottom line, the initial SGs they put has made the money needed, so I wouldn't be worried about having enough funds or not. And this comes from a manufacturer who knows exactly what the costs and profit margins are. Therefore, if you jumped in and nothing chaotic occurs in their HQ, stay cool, they are going to deliver as promised.
