Tabletop Cartographer: Huge, Detailed Maps - relaunch

Recommended Posts

About this project

  • Hello Tabletop Gamers!  Have you ever wanted a beautifully rendered map, so vast that it seems like your group of friends could go just about anywhere and get lost?  This is a restart of a recent map project gracing the pages of Kickstarter, one that could easily be on your home's wall with a your support.  The effect of having a huge wall of maps is quite stunning, the sheer scale and detail of these maps are guaranteed to impress!  The project was on Kickstarter for 16 days as a trial run while I was learning different campaign strategies.  It did well for having little exposure, gaining ground slowly but surely at the 121st place (out of 503 projects). The project had too high of an initial asking price, so now I've lowered the price and decided to offer just the main continent, among some other tweaks and campiagn strategies. Enjoy!

  • The project, with all stretch goals, will be over 300 Color Maps, exhaustively detailed and obsessively perfected for multiple viewing distances using subtle techniques, maximizing your enjoyment up close and far away.
  • This project is a game supplement for all tabletop games that use fantasy maps, including Dungeons and Dragons, Pathfinder, Fate, and  "Insert Your Favorite Here".
  • This project is about putting the power into your hands to make wonderful tabletop gaming experiences.
  • These maps are currently in the black and white phase of production. These maps are perfect for a tabletop game den and they tile together to fit precisely. Designing tabletop maps this way allows for some incredible flexibility for both playing the game and running the game.
  • Each map is a digital file suitable for printing at home or professionally. Map files are 8.5 x 10.5 inches in 300 dpi Resolution and in their uncolored state they look something like this:

  • This map took 8 hours to draw, scan, align to the other map tiles and touch up in Photoshop. I have spent my time expanding the scope of the project, currently no map tiles are colored.
  • Having control of the printing medium allows you to turn this map project into your own art project. The project can go a few different ways, you can with exceptional computer resources make a huge, huge map and have a printing company make a huge, huge print for you. That would cost a lot of money, yet you would have an incredible, huge map of your very own! The other side of the project is that you can print using whatever settings you want out of your home computer and tile them on your wall. This makes for more work hanging the map tiles, yet their are more options aesthetically. Perhaps you will only print a few maps out, the point and strength of this product is that YOU have the control. The only time things get complicated will be during file manipulation, everything else is a simple arts and crafts project. Let your creativity soar!
  • Having no pre-drawn locations (cities, place names) gives you the most flexibility as a Game Master (GM). This can be your world for your players. Manipulate the files directly, or draw locations on the printed maps themselves, you can go with your personal preference.
  • Tiled maps with easy printing also allow you exciting new game mechanics that can be incorporated into ANY tabletop game. Possible exploration game mechanics your players will keep coming back for:
  • The GM keeps the maps to themselves, releasing portions of the map that players can then explore. Players will explore the world, map tile by map tile, each tile full of the mysteries with which the GM fills it. These maps provide great flexibility for running games and add a feel of excitement brought on by an overland adventure. So you and your players will enjoy the mystery of discovering a huge, detailed world (you don't have to look at all the maps)!
  • These lands have been designed for interesting game play. Getting lost on the planet could be a real possibility if a GM controls information carefully. They can do this by cutting up the map and only giving players portions of the maps (making a sort of jigsaw puzzle) and then giving players only bits and pieces. An example of a fun mechanic would be giving players a piece of the map when they beat a boss or dungeon area. This helps in GM planning as well, only designing for a small area of the map. GM's also can apply your own game mechanics and ideas, the sky is the limit!
  • For all of the coloring enthusiasts out there, the Navigator Plus allows for endless reprinting of the map for endless coloring!
  • Also, with simple software tools you have the control to modify the maps for your personal use: Expand the map to make it larger and put a clear overlay of hex tiles onto it for your more calculated battles, great for massive army movements which add more choices to player command decisions.
  • Edit the maps and add your own features, whatever you want! After this project ends look for other Kickstarter projects by Seth, as this is the first of many!
  • Note: I may add hex tiles as a standard overlay for maps, it's incredibly easy but i'd rather keep the prospect of a virgin world as the primary point of the project.
  • Simple Funding Breakdown: All funds are going to pay for taxes, fees and hiring artist(s). The requested funds for the project are based upon other projects that have funded, currently a reasonable market price is unknown for these goods and I am not aware of any direct competition for this product.
  • How Map Tiling works:

  • Comments? Questions? Concerns? All are welcome and could influence the project, so please participate to your heart's content.

Wow, those maps look very similar to my style, though I use paper printed with a very light square grid to help line things up. Hope he gets what he needs to make it.

Iyaxill & Gutmeg Pack Konohana e Otogi Pack Hello and welcome to our second Kickstarter ! As many of you already know our first try have failed, but we promised our friends that we will be back, so here we are, with the old 2 models and 2 brand new ones!
Full Offer Why we are on Kickstarter ? All of the models shown already modeled and test printed, ready to go into production. We need your help for the final phase: molding, mastering, and casting runs are expensive. It would take us a lot of time to raise the funds to put  these models into production over time and we ask for funds to make all models printed and packed. We want to put these models into your hands  as soon as possible, and Kickstarter can make that possible.
We are a group of friends from Italy, avid players of Wargames, Role  Playing Games and miniatures painting and collecting. I personally have a  miniature collection started in 1985 with thousands of pieces; maybe we  can say that we played more or less every game with miniatures of the  last 30 years… Now we want to create the miniatures we waited uselessly  for years that someone else can produce. We have had our miniatures  sculpted by some of the best artist of the world, and we will print them  on the best services on the market. We strive to give you the best of  the best service available.
Iyaxill, Orc Champion Iyaxill, Orc Champion The Orcs are a nomadic people, and can be found nearly in all lands of Valenor (it is said that some Orcs live even in the oceans!). Iyaxill, like many Orcs, is a follower of Gharuk, the God of Fire. But his faith is so strong that he has become a Choosen of Gharuk, a priest of sort but a powerful user of fire magic.
Casting Master Few enemies can stand before a giant Orc in full tribal armour and wielding fire as his weapon. When a Choosen of Gharuk call a tribe to war, thousands of Orcs reply to his call, hundreds of Firestone slinger pelt the enemy line with explosive stones, giant fire elementals walk at the side of priests of Gharuk trampling anything that stands before them...
Gutmeg: Goblin Rifleman Gutmeg: Goblin Rifleman A Goblin is smaller and weaker than all other races of Valenor, and in a world where slavery is practiced the Goblin race suffered more than any other. Goblin can be vicious fighter, that use any tricks and any means to beat an enemy, but usually they get beaten back and defeated.
When the first firearms appeared on the market, for the Goblin was an item sent from the gods. With a firearm a Goblin is the same as any other race, the Great Equalizer. Some Goblins take this to the extreme and create a real cult of Gunpowder.
The Gunpowder Cult is a group of fanatics that revere their weapons and live only to tally how many they kills. (All non-cult creatures are fair target) some of them get the "Flamebearer" rank, like Gutmeg, to show their total dedition to the cult. Losing their weapon is the worst offense a Gunpowder Cult member can do, even if they acquire a new weapon, the old one must be handed down to a new member of the cult. To this end the Flamebeares hold their firepowder reserve stocked under a constant flame the carry on their back. When a Flamebearer fear to be defeted, he opens the flame conduit to reach the gunpowder storage, immulating himself as a living bomb.
For our second year models we want to change our creation process, so instead of historical research and lore history we started from scratch. We put a lot of ideas on paper, burned them and start again a couple of time until we have a number of original stories and character ideas, then we contacted the great Aitor Holgado  a really talented artist to develop our ideas. He got us a lot of great miniatures ideas, and we choose two: Iyaxill & Gutmeg.
We then give the design of Gutmeg to Alessandro Depaoli our great 3D artist, and Iyaxill to a young but talented sculptor: Ocampo Lopez Julio Cesar from Argentina !

      So.. this is happening.
I'm not sure what I can say about this that isn't said on the page; other than it looks like a sheet management toy that could be a lot of fun to mess with.
I'll let you guys judge effectiveness for yourselves. ;p

CQW Volume II: It's back and bigger and better than ever!
It all started with wanting a good old-fashioned dungeon crawl, but in an easy to play board game that had flexibility in exploration and was challenging. I had a multitude of minis, so did not need to spend extra money on the available board games that included all of those minis and pieces to the point of the game costing hundreds of dollars and bloated rules to where picking up a casual game with friends was nearly impossible. Why was there not a role-playing board game with easy to understand rules, super quick to set up and unlimited flexibility to make my own campaigns, use my own minis and even print the material, board, terrain and furniture as needed?
Welcome to Cavern Quest Warriors – the RPG board game where you choose one of six characters with unique abilities on a quest in search of adventure and treasure. Choose a Warrior/Fighter, Barbarian/Berserker, Cleric/Monk, Rogue/Thief, Wizard/Magic-User or an Archer/Ranger. All games pieces are designed to be printed on either paper or simple card stock (e.g. 110 lb. index) – just print what you need along with the basic rules, special cards and campaign module that includes the floor plan, creature stat panel, individual room/floor tiles and use your own minis to embark on a quest with your friends. The Cavern Master will guide the play for maximum challenge and enjoyment for the characters along with movement and battle for all creatures, keeping it enjoyable for everyone. Each campaign module gives the Cavern Master complete instructions on how to guide the players through each room and what creatures and events they will encounter. While this concept is not entirely new, the method and delivery concept are. By providing all documents electronically, you save money by printing yourself - no need to spend hundreds of dollars to get what ends up being an enormous board game with hours and hours of game play.
The basic rules are quick and easy to learn, yet always challenging and allow for character expansion in all abilities through experience gained. The magic system is unique to ensure a varied and changing set of magic skills as wizards progress. New players can jump in at any time, in any campaign and at any level with our set skill system for characters – no need to start at the bottom!

      Coming Kickstarter from S7 Games.
We are thrilled to announce that the Conan: Savage Legends Kickstarter, launching July 16th, will include three high quality sculpts of Arnold Schwarzenegger in his iconic role as Conan in the 1982 and 1984 films! These officially licensed sculpts are all highly detailed, 32mm miniatures that should be part of any Conan fan's collection!
That's not the only exciting Conan news we have for you! This week, Rob Stoddard, lead developer of Conan: Savage Legends, sat down with the Fools Daily podcast to talk about the game's design. For those of you who don't know, in Conan: Savage Legends, you take control of a Legend in Robert E. Howard's Hyborian Age as you seek to destroy your enemies in a fast-paced fight to the death. In this 2-4 player arena-style combat miniatures game, you will use powerful relics and plundered riches to engage your foes in glorious combat. Destroy your opponents with sheer might or cunning tactics and prove to your foes why you deserve the title of "Savage Legend."
