Kingdom Death: Monster 2

I’m curious why you think his game mechanics have influenced any other company or quality for that matter. He is a pretty small player in the game and miniature market.

I am an amateur observer to be sure but KD:M seemed to proceed the whole legacy action.  Also Oathsworn, Day Night Z, and to some extent even Gloomhaven and Rangers of Shadowdeep seem to have that deep dark story combined with a good chance of failure and  a story that reveals itself along with gorgeous artistry and many unanswered questions than help rather than detract from the story.

I'm not the expert but that feel wasn't there before KDM and now it is part of the toolbox of game systems, adding a new genre to the gaming environment.  It also was one of the very first to have a game that pretty much made the players commit to 60+ hours to play that wasnt a war simulation (wargames had that pinned down decades ago -- im looking at you War in the Pacific!)

Those are my thoughts

A shocking announcement today: Delayed again!  Not actually that surprising considering the state of the global supply chain.  Better luck next year.

Not that shocking really but there were some nice things in the update to make up for it. What was unexpected was an early prototype virtual tabletop because Poots can't officially recognise all the Tabletop Simulator versions so he's having one made himself. Since it's free for those who already own the physical game I picked it up to look at later on.

Between Poots sad sack act, the lack of new minis and a rather poor (IMO) attempt to show why things are taking so long, this update tipped me from a 'disappointed at the delays, annoyed at the lack of communication but still committed backer' to pretty much losing all interest.

I'm not going to throw a hissy fit and demand a refund, but I'm just completely over the whole Kingdom Death thing at this point.

Not surprised at all by the additional delay.  And honestly, I have TONS of content that I haven't even opened yet, so I'm not concerned.  When we do get everything, I have no doubt it will be awesome.  Plus, he did say the pinups could be coming ahead of the rest of wave 3.  I'm good with that.

And as for the virtual tabletop, I'll definitely be checking that out soon!

Huh,  I missed the virtual tabletop.  I need to look at that.  that could make it a lot easier to play with others...

As for the delays:  I have dealt with authors and artists before for commercial and commissioned art.  Commercial art usually comes in on deadline and is exactly what you ask for.  commissioned art can be early, can be very late but its almost never on time and usually very delayed.  The trade off us that you usually get some really beautiul things.  Then again, he could be a whiney artist and playing up the whole 'I will decide' thing to a whole new level.

However, I am still playing my first campaign of Kingdom death and i have only used 2 expansions.  Its going to take at least a decade before i exhaust what i have.  Some of the other pieces are cool and i look forward to them, but I am not in a rush.

But then again, I still hold out hope for my copy of the citystate of the invicible overlord and the rest of my Oith minis so I am an eternal optimist...

The warning signs were all over the place before the KS. With Poots in the middle of one of CoVid's epicenters, I'm worried, but, otherwise, he's shown he's even able to refund backers in his first KS for the unfinished Lantern. That shows integrity as well as enough retail sales to sustain a KS project -- not that there's any guarantee that he can do that now. The base game and Gambler's Chest pledge was too good of a deal to pass up, at least compared to KDM's regular prices, although I skipped out on the add-ons. (I usually skip add-ons in a KS because of their higher per-unit cost, additional development and production time, and chance of mixups during fulfillment.)

Still, if you only wanted boutique mini's, plenty of them are already on the market without this interminable delay. I was lucky to pick up several GW personality models and armies for $100 at a flea market. Also, while KDM has its unique settlement rules, Gloomhaven's hand management (as well as content for the cost of the game) sets it further apart from dice-based dungeoncrawlers. KDM has also sent out the 1.5 base games and, I guess, the second wave of in-print expansions. So, since I only pledged for the base game and Gambler's Chest, it's not hard for me to be fine with the delay, as I already got half of my stuff.

I suspect that the Gambler's Chest should go for a few hundred dollars, anyway, on eBay -- especially if goes temporarily OOP like pretty much everything KDM sells. (I hear, though, they're limited in how much stuff they can sell by their caster,)

Gambler's Chest and Campaigns of Death are just hugely larger now.  People still want to add them even at a significant increase of the original cost.  I'm sure he gets a large amount of income every time he unlocks the PM.  I honestly expected this, which is why i bought most of the newer expansions.. he always over delivers, he just takes a while.  If you figure he sells 500 of a new mini at $30-50 each when they hit the store, thats a good chunk and people still buy the holiday minis even though a lot of people already own them.

Just when I think I'm out they pull me back in, looking forward to freaking out the occasional visitor by prominently displaying the Ivory Dragon.

It's somewhat hilarious that a two hour rush job update would be much more interesting than one he's spent days/weeks agonising over.

Probably due to the fact he didn't have time to waffle on about how hard he's working.

Pity it won't last.

I went in at the Satan's pledge level, I swing daily between regretting that and being really pleased that I did.

Friends and I played the game but it just didn't grab us, it was fascinating but we didn't have fun. However I am a big fan of the minis and it looks like there are a huge number to come. If I sell off the expansions I have and the new ones (if they arrive before the Grim Reaper catches up with me), I could see a situation where I end up with a host of minis and a break-even cost.

I loved playing the game solo, but after 2 years of heavy playing and I haven't played in 2 more years.

I more than got my money out of the part that I have received.

I got tired of waiting and bought a naked version of an expansion monster (nightmare ram)  which I painted  in Feb.

I don't really want the game content at this point,  but the minis continue to impress.

I have kinda written off the 4 upcoming expansions I ordered - there are just so many unfinished pieces. at current progress 2023 is a ballpark.

I'm confident that the Gamblers chest will show up eventually - but there's easily 100$ of stuff in there I don't want, and could sell off.

if im feeling lazy about assembling plastic, I might evilbay the whole thing.

I'm in the same boat.

I love the minis (I quite like the game as well but don't really have the space to play it), so I know if I got a refund on the Kickstarter I'd just end up buying most of it whenever it hit retail anyways.

But it's turning me into the sort of forum poster I detest the most. The ones who are forever popping up in threads to loudly complain about how terrible something is, stubbornly refusing to just cut their losses and move on to something that doesn't aggravate them so much.

The naysayers (and I'm guilty of this myself), perform a valuable service. They're a counter to the worshippers who believe Poots is above criticism, and in this project at least they have legitimate reason to complain about poor communication and delay.

The pandemic has hit my bank account quite hard so I've been toying with a refund request but I really do want those miniatures, especially some of the really bizarre monsters.

Just ran across this. I’m not familiar with the company, but they seem pretty established in the historical line. Anyone have thoughts on these? The price per figure seems reasonable for good resin.
