03315: Tiviel, Hellborn Rogue

Recommended Posts

Here's one from a few years ago. I painted here up way back when, and put her on a nicer base about six months ago. Pulled her out this evening to compare how the painting I did for that base had held up against a brand new similar one, and figured I might as well post her here too.

If you look close, you can see a little wear, but overall I'm really happy with how durable this paint has been.

Nice indeed. Where are the bases from?

Not sure about the one on the right. I picked it up as part of a set ~6 years ago at Atomic Empire. I've always thought it was Secret Weapon, but I can't find anything exactly like it in their catalog. If anyone recognizes it, please chime in; I'd love to get more.

The one on the left is made with the pledge sampler stamp from Happy Seppuku's first kickstarter. It's a tragedy that they made it a kickstarter exclusive; if not, I would recommend it to everyone. I'm pretty sure you can still get the cobblestones separately though.

      Hey all!

I'm new to the forums and thought I'd say Hi.

I'm really new to painting minis, but after years of being intimidated by it I found Reaper's learn to paint kit and finally took the plunge. The hobby is fun as heck but still having trouble with a lot of it all, like no brush is small enough for eyes. I don't understand how people do the eyes with size 0 brushes. But I hope that with practice and your all's help I can be even a fraction as good as you all are.

Anywho, here's what I've worked on in the past week or so. First was Orc, then Timur. Tiviel was tonight. I'd appreciate criticism, though please try not to kill me ;P, I hope my amateur-ish-ness isn't too offensive on the eyes.

This week I completed a tabletop paint job on Tiviel, Hellborn Rogue, from the Bones 1 Kickstarter "Bedeviled" set.  When looking at this figure there was something about it that looked more Sci-Fi than Fantasy to me.  I don't know if it was the outfit, or the stance, or just the general demeanor of the figure; but to me it looked a bit more like a Star Trek alien than a fantasy world demon. So, I decided to go with that for my painting scheme.

I'm pleased with how the Sci-Fi look turned out on her.  I think she looks like a good alien assassin, or perhaps some sort of exotic knife dancer.

      As always, C & C welcome.

      Hello again,

As previously explained in the WIP thread (here) this piece has been my stage for many firsts and learning experiments.

Firstly I tried to make a lava base for the first time and found out that I certainly could have gone with more texture to give the impression of flowing lava..

Then I tried to do some OSL, where light of the lava is reflected on the base where Tiviel stands.

Finally I tried to do NMM on he blades which eluded me and it kinda still does but I wowed to work on it on a more suitable blade in the near future.

So, as always your C&C are more than welcome so that I can get better and improve.

      Thx in advance.

      Hello all,

This is my first time in WIP area therefore I am rather excited

Secondly I will be trying many new stuff and therefore truly in terra incognita here

      So, here goes nothing:

I started with the base since I want a lava base and I want the rocky surface I will place my mini to reflect light coming from the lava.

I chose Vallejo Black Lava for my lava surface but regretted afterwards since I want still molten lava not cooled off lava that is more suitable for Black Lava.. However this is all I have and my local store is out of stuff like white/grey pumice :(

But, I will try working with what I have and try to get a realistic look.

This is all I have for now. Your comments are eagerly awaited and will be appreciated immensely since I really dont know what I'm doing :)))
