Bones highland heroine 77389

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

Wanted to take a break from painting big stompy robots (CAVs) and get back into something with curves. Someone in my pathfinder group just made a new character, a female slayer... So I used that as motivation to paint up this awesome sculpt.

I looked around and got heavy inspiration from these two posts by Pingo and Evilcoatrack:

I decided to try a few new things with this mini, including thinning using matte medium, and a tartan pattern. Tartan is really hard to make look good... If anyone had any tips, I am all ears. I just finished the hair and am really happy with how it came out, and this is probably the best face I have ever done as well (with eyes, no less!). In fact, the irises went on a bit thick, so there is a little dollop that creates a shadow under strong light to mimic a pupil ... Kind of like the opposite of what Roman sculptures do. A fortunate accident.

Anyway, C and C appreciated. I reckon I'll have her done by the end of the week. I'll be trying nmm on the sword and shields. Pingo and Evilcoatrack, thanks for the inspiration!!!

If you have a spare moment...  I would LOVE to know a little about how you did her hair.  That is a gorgeous color!  The tartan is off to a good start too, it's got the right feel to it.

Happy Thanksgiving to my American friends!

Git a little painting done this morning before heading to Thanksgiving dinner. I prepped the metals for my first attempt at doing NMM, and did the basecoat and dark wash for the fur border of the cape. I also darkened the gold stripe on the cape.

I don't have time to discuss the hair right now, but I will get to it!!

      This is Yuki Onna.
One of my first 3D printed models.

      I kept the colourscheme simple.
She's a ghost for my Nippon, Land of the Rising Moon, Project.

She got a base from the Artisan Guild Oni set.
I painted her eyes red, not sure if it's visible.

The dire crocodile, dire boar, and dire crab were one of the Bones 4 addons, and it doesn't look like they've hit retail just yet. Which is a shame, because we need more giant crabs.

The mud on the dire crocodile's base is just some water effect goo dribbled on that half of the base. The barnacles attached to the rocks on the dire crab's base were sculpted with green stuff. The rocks... those are just rocks.

I'm looking for something to stick Bones, specifically Ma'al Drakar's terrain, to a wooden base. It's not thick enough, at the area I want to place it, to pin effectively.

What kind of adhesives would work? I'm thinking epoxy, maybe? I just /really/ don't want to melt it accidentally and have to buy a new one.

I just like the way the blue/black wings look.  - I did the same with the Librarian Sophie. (last month)
I really need to paint up one of the metal versions for contrast.
I'm not sure what she is serving - Meat, bread and salad is the way I painted it, but that could be cake instead.

Been wanting to paint this one for awhile. Love the dynamic pose! Really happy with this one.
