77395 Reaper Bones Cadirith Demonic Colossal Spider

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Presenting my new WIP - Cadirith, Demonic Colossal Spider!

I haven't decided on a colour scheme or anything yet but I've been Googling images of tarantulas, arachnids & insects for inspiration. Anyway, this leggy beast should look something like this after assembly:

On this model, there is a large void underneath the abdomen & I was unsure whether to fill it in or not. I decided to go ahead & do it as it looks a bit weird from the sides otherwise, also It should help to give it a bit of weight or balance.

I started by filling the majority of the hole with green stuff:

After drying, I mixed up some Millliput (which I much prefer to sculpt in) & then applied & sculpted the outer case of the abdomen in 3 sections:

Finally, after an hour or so of drying time I sculpted in a basic hair texture by dragging lines in the putty with a pointy tool using the surrounding areas as a reference guide:

I'm generally not super confident with sculpting but I'm pretty happy with how this turned out. ^_^

Anyway that's it for now, back soon with some actual painty stuff!

That looks good!

Darn, now I want one, don't know why...but suddenly I need it...

and wouldn't a giant spider fit into a jungle theme as an arachnid old one????

Yes. Everyone knows that the deep dark jungles are full of things best left unnamed. *shudder*

Looking forward to seeing this finished, even if just looking at it gives me the creeping ickies. ^^;

Made some progress over the last couple of days.

I gave her 2 thin base coats of black, then (using Citadel paints), I drybrushed the legs with "Dark Reaper" leaving the claws & the middle third of each leg black.

I drybrushed the upper body with the same colour & painted in the last two thirds of each abdomen plate leaving the deepest third in black. I then drybrushed into half of this black section (ultimately, I'm trying to achieve a colour transition over each abdomen plate).

I then drybrushed the joint end half of every "Dark Reaper" painted section with "Thunderhawk Blue" & the areas where the claws & spikes emerge. the body was drybrushed with the same colour on the more raised sections. On the abdomen plates, I painted this colour into the last third of each plate & drybrushed it into half of the middle "Dark Reaper" third.

I wonder why it has that gap in the abdomen. Maybe for using clear material and putting in smaller spiders, or a spider egg sac!

It's probably more to do with the casting process. The egg sac is a great idea though, kinda wish I'd thought of that! :poke:

I just finished off the main leg & body colouration by drybrushing Fenrisian Grey onto the very edge of each leg joint "knuckle". I also, selectively drybrushed the body very lightly & the last 1 to 2 thirds of each upper abdomen plate with the same colour.

Yeah, but your fix was inspiring. You did an amazing job of patching that gap and making it look professionally sculpted.
