Question for December 3rd, 2016

Has your time here on the forums had any significant impact on your life? Or is it just a fun way to spend a bit time with some friends and pick up a bit of inspiration and/or instruction?

Significant impact on my life? I don't know, that's kinda deep. I've made a lot of friends here (even if I do only get to see most of you once a year), that's for certain.

Definitely yes to the second part.

Yes, or I would not be as involved with CAV as I am. Yes it is a great way to spend time with friends, who are mostly like an extended family. who I sometimes get to see once a year. some times the inspire me and sometimes they instruct me and most of the time (I think) I freek them out. [Yes I know I spelled freak wrong, I just made a new word. Freek; noun - can be used as a verb. a geek who is funny as heck and at same time freaks you out.]

Pleasant distraction for the most part. Aside from a huge monetary impact

Answering my own question quite late, as usual... And I'll try not to go into an essay this time. ::P:

I joined the forums for a bit of fun and instruction, and I've gotten that in spades. You lot are lovely. ::D: Through my participation on the forums I've also come to learn a few things about myself, such as the fact that I can have a poop-ton of fun doing art things even if I'm not very good at it. Between that and making a lot of friends, I think my time here has significantly impacted my life... but by far the biggest impact is that it's fun and I get to learn a lot. ::):

Question for Dec 5, 2016

When you start a new RPG campaign, do you feel compelled to paint up minis to suit it?

Today's question suggested by the inimitable Pezler the Polychromatic!

Compelled? No.

Do I desire to?  Heck yeah.  I try and paint up a mini for each character that i create.  Even the ones in the PbPs.

Nope. All my campaign save one are PbP. I am trying to get some mins painted up for my one table top. I bought minis at Reaper Con this year for just this purpose.

No. I want to draw them first, but never get around to it. Then I start looking for The Right Mini... which isn't out there, so now I need to learn to sculpt so I can put off sculpting my characters.

Oh boy, guess I'd better answer my own question then. I would certainly like to, however this will be the first Pathfinder campaign my group has played since I started painting. The thing is, it's mostly going to be electronic, so I won't have a chance to use the minis. Still, I've been checking out miniatures for a proper half-orc cleric, though it looks like I might have to use Heroforge to make a proper one. That's if he survives long enough, that is. My old DM is back in town, so I might be able to paint stuff up for anything he decides to run.

Yup. And I usually do, too - there are never enough kobolds.. or hobgoblins, or ... ^^;

Oh, and my character usually... sometimes two or three times (Reincarnation. I gave up after the Nagaji, though. I hadn't even finished the gnoll version when that happened).

Current only needed two; the mounted version, who is not attached to her horse, so that the two can be moved about seperately, and the standing version.

Answering the last question a little late.. yes, to both.

Depends, is the campaign good? Who's running it, etc. But, typically no.

Always - sometimes I even sculpt a new one specially for it, which becomes really annoying if they die early...

Even when we play RPGs that don't use minis at all, everyone in the group likes to have a mini anyway.  ^_^

I don't play...but I am often triggered to paint new minis when I read a story or saw a movie which I want to recreate stuff from.

Or when I start making up my own stories. ( See My Lost World Project).
