Old Lunkh was always the epitome of a Hill Giant to me, with his mismatched patched together clothes, hordes of carried loot, dumbfounded expression, and rock-tossing.  You've really brought him to life!

I interpreted it as being part of his bag o stuff.  The head was somewhat squishy, which made me think it was dead and attached to the bag...
