OK, I'm officially excited.

I posted in another thread that I was eagerly awaiting the arrival of the LTPKs I ordered just before Christmas. Lo and behold, when I went to the Post Office this afternoon, they had arrived. (Many thanks to the American and Australian postal services.)

What do I like about them?

  • Nice sturdy carry cases.
  • LTPK1 painting guide includes a copy of the MSPCore and MSPHD paints swatches - very handy! And the first guide (haven't read the second) looks like a nice, logical and step-by-step introduction to minis painting, complete with piccies.
  • 3 Bones minis in each kit, and to my untrained eye it looks like each of them offers different challenges in painting. (Starting with a skelly as a simple introduction is a very good idea.)
  • LTPK1 includes 2 synthetic brushes and LTPK2 has a couple of Kolinsky sable brushes (nice!). Great way to get used to different types and sizes of brush.
    • LTPK1 has round #0 and flat #2;
    • LTPK2 advertised as having round #1 and round #3/0; actually came with 2 x round #0 (which is fine, since Reaper do say in the documentation that there may be substitutions according to stock on hand).
  • I also like the fact that the second kit includes an empty bottle for water - useful when all measurements are in drops.

Of course, having raced to open and pore over the contents, and then to post here, I haven't started painting yet, so I can't actually say anything about the paints themselves. Well, soon enough!

And the nice surprise for me in all this is that, looking at the website, I thought that the Christmas freebie for that day  was a goblin caroler from the 3 pictured. Actually, it was a blister with all 3 minis. Nice bonus!

Lucky Boddynock!

While you received Kolinsky brushes, I wonder if that is what they intended to put in the kit.  If you've seen what they cost, you can understand why that would be extremely generous of Reaper.  If it was not a mistake or a limited thing, then LTPK #2 is a super value.  The kits are already very good deals, even with the standard brushes they normally include.

Brushes for LTP 2 are packaged in a blister on a backer card that says Kolinsky, however they are not Kolinsky.
With two LTP kits, I needed a way to tell the brushes apart without spending an entire day printing labels on cards so I chose to use one backer card for one kit and the other backer card for the other kit.

It makes it easier for my labor pool.

Hmm. Looking for a button to "not like" ladystorm's post.

Never mind. I'm sure I'll get over the disappointment. ::D:

In the pictures in the store, the label on the paint kits shown there shows that each kit contains "two master series brushes".  Not having the paint kits myself, I don't know if the label says that on the actual production item (store picture may be a pre-production unit).

Master Series Brushes are in the store by that name and are Reaper's Kolinsky brand.

If the kits do not come with Kolinskys (either of them), but one comes on a Kolinsky cardback, and the label says the box contains Master Series brushes that are Reaper's Kolinsky label... while this may be expedient for your staff, that has the potential to cause a great deal of confusion.  Especially considering the primary consumers of the product are new customers who cannot be reasonably expected to tell the difference when they have two labels telling them something is what it is not.

I am planning on getting the first LTPK in order to qualify for the January giveaway figure, then the other kit when another of the free figures grabs my attention.

The Auld Grump - it was disturbing to realize how many of the most used colors that we are running low on.

Well I would certainly recommend it. ::):

It's been a slow few weeks painting wise because work wise has been crazy but I almost finished with the LTPK2. Here is Ingrid. I am pretty pleased with her and feel like I learned a LOT. She also has the best eyes I've been able to manage thus far. Everything else either gets just a black dot or no eyes at all.

I apologize for the bad pictures, I am working on getting a proper background set up but for right now I just hold them up to the light and take a photo and hope it comes out well.

I don't have a whole lot of pictures of the WiP for this guy, as I was working on him to the side while working on Ingrid and Hajad. Finishing him up at not my normal workstation.

      This is my current setup.

And the "elf" himself, looking remarkably like a certain red wizard of Krynn...

I went darker than the LTPK's instructions, and nowhere near as smooth... And this is also a terrible picture. I really need to invest in a better photo setup.

Tonight I started spending some time with Hajad (middle figure) from the Learn To Paint Kit: 2 Layer Up... not much to see yet. I think I'm gonna give him some facial hair though...

Much work yet to be done. For those following along at home, I'm still doing the base coat layer.

Here is a selection of Bones I have painted so far. I bought five original ones prior to the bones being shipped to see what they are like.

      Here is the ghost.

Here is the werewolf, I quite like how he came out.

      My Ogre Chieftain

      Here is Garrik the Bold

      Here is Fimbur the Dwarf

      This is the first lot.
More to come as I have now finished some of the Vampire set.
If its ok to post directly from the IPhone?

Update11/9/13 - I have just posted the right links for the pictures to appear. Also seen some of the pictures aren't great so will replace at some point.

Update 2/1/14 - have now combined this as compendium of all the models I have painted.

Ok here is my attempt to recreate Laurana from the LTPK2 using the LTPK2 WIP Thread.  Thanks to all who posted.
