Members SamuraiJack
About this project Check the comments on this project for sneak peeks, Darklands lore, hints, tactics, painting advice and general insanity! The community that builds during these Kickstarter projects is amazing, and even if you just read the comments, you'll gain so much more from Darklands: Starter Hosts! Backing Darklands: Starter Hosts is a great opportunity to get into the dark fantasy world of Darklands for the first time, to expand your existing Darklands collection or maybe just to grab some fantastic miniatures to paint. The Dead of Black Barrow, WihtgÄr Unit We'll give you the option to purchase everything in resin, too, if you're more of a painter than a gamer! Darklands is a tabletop skirmish wargame in which YOU command the hosts of man and beast that your ancestors once did for glory, power or simple survival. You can play Darklands with all of our amazing miniatures, including our incredible monsters and anything produced by this project, in a wargame designed specifically for them in a setting that you already know a lot about... for the lands of darkness, the "dark lands" as we call them, are in fact the north and west of Europe and of course the sunken lands still remembered, yet no longer seen, from ancient times. Intrigued? Have a look at the bottom of this project's page for more information on Darklands the wargame! New to Darklands? Choose your infantry host, and get the "STARTER BUNDLE" reward! It's the easiest way to get playing! To keep things as simple as possible, this project’s rewards are based around the concept of a Starter Host. All Starter Hosts contain a small Darklands host of around 499 gold - so Encounter Host size - where possible, and you can add the Darklands: First Edition rule book, order tokens and D10 dice to your pledge to ensure you have everything you need to get started! You can purchase any of the Infantry Starter Hosts in metal or resin from the graphic below - either as single purchases or as part of the "FIVE INFANTRY HOSTS" reward. Each Infantry Starter Host almost always contains: 1x Commander 1x Infantry unit of 10x miniatures, including champion, banner bearer and herald where appropriate 1x Monstrous Infantry unit of 5x warriors (50mm) or 3x warriors (60mm) Note that 60mm monstrous infantry units (such as the Srónax) can only be produced in resin regardless of whether your purchase is for a metal host or a resin host. Each of these Infantry Starter Hosts will be released to the public in similar format later on this year. As well as the Infantry Starter Hosts we have a number of hosts containing monstrous infantry, based around the same principle of 499 gold or Encounter Host size, where possible. Each Monstrous Infantry Starter Host almost always contains: 1x Monstrous Commander 1x Monstrous Infantry unit of 5x miniatures, including champion, banner bearer and herald where appropriate 1x Monstrous Beast Note that 60mm monstrous infantry hosts and all of the monstrous beasts will only be produced in resin regardless of whether your purchase is for a metal host or a resin host. Each of these Monstrous Infantry Starter Hosts will be released to the public in similar format later on this year. CashWiley
The first KS I'll be passing on with my new year's ban on buying minis. Blah. He should do ok with the core backers, I don't think a lot of them want KD plastic (or are big enough whales for both). Any newbs looking at these: Mierce is good stuff, especially the Jute!
Talae
Will save made. Poots gets my money this time around. I will second Cash's point, though. These are great minis!
Beagle
Excellent minis. I just wish Mierce would bloody well send me some of those I pledged for.
Dan d'Lyon
I'll be putting in a token pledge probably, but otherwise I'll stay away. He did say there were going to be new Jutes at £10,000 though....
Bathory
I'm done with Mierce until they get caught up with production.
Orlando_the_Technicoloured
Hosts will hopefully bring in a bunch of new players (but are less useful for existing painter/horders like me) but I've got my token pledge in
CashWiley
I'm done with Mierce until they get caught up with production.Do you have multiple shipment waves? I know their business model is to keep things constantly in the pipeline, but I have the vast majority of the stuff I've pledged for...and that's not an insignificant amount. Stuff hasn't been sculpted yet.
MonkeySloth
This KSer is to hopefully get new people in, that's why the only real new sculpt is the bat shown above, and give Rob money to do things like get models painted. One thing he's doing for this KSer that might intrest people is real quick start rules. There will be a PDF avalible, hopefully, next week of this. Moderator Chaoswolf Posted January 7, 2017 Moderator Share Posted January 7, 2017 I'm done with Mierce until they get caught up with production. I was kind of wondering about that; I thought that I'd read somewhere that they're significantly behind schedule on at least one other KS. Can anyone shed a little more light on that, please? Bathory
I've learned my lesson in the past to not say anything negative about Mierce on this forum....
Blue Prophet
I think Rob could use a bit of help in the marketing department. This new Kickstarter makes sense to those of us who have seen many of them, but I can imagine that it is still confusing or overwhelming for a brand new customer. Things are clearer than the first Kickstarter, but could be even better. Also I think Mierce really needed to do more advertising and promotion before the start of this one to get new eyeballs in that might have written off Darklands in the past. Maybe they did do some, but I get the impression that there wasn't much. I'd like to see the game succeed. That requires more fans, not just the core 300-500 people that are already invested in the models and game. It takes some work outside Kickstarter to get those eyeballs. Making a "starter" package is a good start in the right direction. I bet a retail looking box (or even a mock-up) actually would communicate a lot to a potential new customer that this product is a good place to start. It is tough though because he has already built out so many kindred options to choose from.
Moderator Darsc Zacal Posted January 7, 2017 Moderator Share Posted January 7, 2017 I've learned my lesson in the past to not say anything negative about Mierce on this forum....That's unfortunate you feel that way. I've made my own feelings clear in the past as to how I feel about the people behind Mierce and why. I believe the more informed a person is about a company the more they can manage their expectations.
