Sparrow paints Yephima

Recommended Posts

So I'm going to try to keep up with a new WIP. I started painting Yephima yesterday and I hope to finish her by the end of the month. Here is my progress so far:

post-13972-0-83744300-1484427125_thumb.jpg

I first put down a thin layer blue liner and then based her skin in MSP Ashen Blue and her armor and hair pieces are MSP Ancient Bronze. I missed a couple of bits of armor that I need to go back and do.

I haven't yet decided what other colors I want to do on the rest of her. I'll normally plan this out ahead of time but when I went to my notebook nothing was written down on her page. Oops. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I really like the colors you started with. For advice, the first thing I would do is get a bowl of very hot water and one with ice water to try and straighten out her club. It will probably mess up some of the base coat but it may be worth it if you want her weapon to be straight. Shouldn't be too hard to touch up the base coat at this early stage.

I didn't even notice that it was bent. >.< Thanks for pointing that out, I'll definitely try to fix it as best as I can.

Got your back Sparrow!  ::D:

This is easily one of my all time favorite Bones minis. I'm not confident enough to paint mine yet so it's great to see you painting her. Love your choice of Ashen Blue for her skin base. It's such a nice blue. Can't wait to see what you do for the bronze armor.

She is so pretty, you should just paint her. You can do eet. I wish she was in metal.

Sparrow- maybe a pretty pink for her cloth. You could go dark or light.

I think a pink would go great and I have the perfect color in mind, need to do some testing first.

On another note I've had a horrid headache since last night so I haven't been able to paint today. Hopefully it will subside soon and I can get back to painting.

Headache went away enough to at least get a little paint on her today. Went back and did another layer on the base coat, the boiling water didn't seem to affect it but I redid it just in case. The club is still slightly bent, or it looks it to me, but much better than it was.

I went with MSP pale violet red for the skirt. It needs a couple more layers of paint before it's ready for further painting.

The club looks MUCH better! Next time if you want to straighten something after you've started painting and want to avoid the boiling water you can use a hair dryer to heat it up. You'll probably still want the ice water after, though.

Thanks for the tip! I never would have thought to use a hair dryer. I have one that rarely sees use but it may very well get used regularly now.

I'm really happy with how she's turning out so far. I am dreading the face though. I feel like I get a decent paint job done and then I go to do the face and ruin the whole thing. It's mostly the eyes really. I've tried about a thousand different ways to do them but still have not gotten it down. I've gotten worlds better than I had been doing, for the most part, but they're still pretty rough.

Go to 'the craft' section of the main Reaper page under resources and look for 'Bette Davis Eyes'

It helped me to get very much less afraid of painting eyes....

Nice work, by the way!

I too wish she was in metal. ..

Thanks! I'll definitely take a look at that, I feel like I've looked at it before but another look couldn't hurt.

I'm still deciding on colors for the smaller details, I'm thinking about Ruby Red for everything else except the garter since I've got the pink and metallic going on already but I'm still back and forth on it.
