Squogs with Trident (77268) (Bones)

Recommended Posts

This past week I started working on a unit of 10 Squogs to add to my old Poison Dart Frog Army; which is made up mostly of Eureka Miniatures' Frog Warriors.  I thought the Squogs would fit right in with the rest of the troops, as some sort of more tribal cousins.

I started with the ones that came from the Bones 2 Kickstarter in the Swamp Things set, and ordered a couple more packs from Reaper. This week, I painted five of the trident armed ones; converting one into a standard bearer. I made the standard from the petal off an artificial flower.

Nothing fancy, just a quick tabletop paint job for these guys. And I decided to model their coloring from a kind of strawberry poison dart frog:

Oh those are really nice.  I love how vivid they are!  You have made a typically bleak thing into a stunning display.

I approve of this!!!!

I must paint a unit for my Lost World Project...

That is a good colourscheme, and I love the idea for the standard!

Thank you, Baldur!  It's one of the reason I like to paint frogs as poison dark varieties; it's much more fun than drab old regular frogs. :)

Thanks, Xherman!   Erueka's Frog King's palanquin set has a figure that came with an artificial leaf the you glued to a cast-on twig it was holding, to create a sunshield for king riding in the palanquin; and I thought since the glued-on leaf looked so cool, why not use a glued on petal for a standard!

They look great!

Thanks, hiddenone!

Good work on them, including the conversion.

I like your poison dart frog army, too! Very cool stuff in there, like the turtle tank, and lizard riders.

Thank you, Chaoswolf!

Thanks also for the kind words regarding my Poison Dart Frog army!  You picked my two favorites as well. :)  I'm particularly pleased with the tank since I built that from scratch, and the cavalry since it required a lot for conversion work to get the frogs mounted on the Mage Knight lizards.

My first time posting to this forum, please let me know if I misstep :p

Reaper Bones Black: 44002 Rock Troll

I added a more rocky base using rock and some plastic crystals carved from leftover plastic sprue. Also added some more crystals to his elbows and side. The elbows were just because I thought it would make it look more menacing but the one on his side was because of a huge hole leftover from the moulding process. To take care of assembly lines I used some of the rock I cracked apart for the base.

I still have the belt and pouch to do, along with the base and some smoothing if blends in his muscles.

      Feedback and CC most welcome!!!

So the reason I had spare blackstar rifles was that I decided a proper pirate captain needs a sword.

So I built this guy with the bones 3 weapon pack, and the spare head off of the bones 4 bulldog armor.

His sword has much fire, and his reactor a distressing blue glow.

Some quick work to get these on the table. They look good at arm's length, but a lot of the highlights are really rough, etc. I'm quite pleased with the eyes, as they were very quickly done and worked on the first go. I do need to clean up the bases a bit, add a little flock or something; I'll eventually do that with a batch of other tabletop figs.

These are maybe the fifth or so figures I've painted of the Bones Black material. I like it a bunch, it's easier to deal with in pretty much every way than regular Bonesium, with the possible exception of mass material removal. Mold line cleanup is almost like working with metal, and the plastic is far less hydrophobic than regular Bonesium (note: "less hydrophobic" is not the same as "not hydrophobic").

Hi all.  I just finished the Colossal Skeleton that I've had for a couple years now.  For the longest time I was holding off because I was afraid of doing a mini so much bigger than all the rest.  I've gotten some nice reviews on some of my recent stuff so I decided to take the plunge and try my hand at my first large figure.  I have several sets much larger than even this guy so I had to start somewhere.  The closeup pics show how much work I did on the fur for the back lioncloth as well as the wood grain lines I painted on the planks on his right thigh.  I based him on a wooden plaque my mom was getting rid of that I painted black.  I was doing more work on the base, it was supposed to have some more colours in it but I messed up on the drybrushing so I called it finished and hid the mistake with some static grass .  So far one friend has told me the blue rags pull him out of the mini because they look too new and blue while the rest of him is old and rotted.  Maybe he could do with some more staining on the blue but it doesn't bother me much.  Anyways, enough preamble, I hope you all like him enough as my first large mini!

Edit: forgot to apologize for the make-believe "lightbox" photos, but that's how it goes.
