So last Paint day at the Citadel in Groton CT, I picked up the OOP Chainmail Mini Orc Druid, because folks on the hangouts were talking about him...

Orc Druid

So I spoke to Dilvish, Chaoswolf, & Pezler, (and David Brawley), and most of us have him, (David has an Orc Champion) and we decided to have a Hangout Group Paint of this guy, for the Month of February.

Now Dilvish still needs to get one, and the Citadel still has a few extra....

So if you have this figure, or a Chainmail or other Orc Spell Caster, Join in and paint with us!

This is not a contest, or any type of pressure event, it is just something for a bunch of folks to do and talk about while we are hanging out....

So Join in if you like...

Watch if you like!

Current Hangout link: https://hangouts.goo...3ogteaq4nokgdae

I plan on doing my own WiP Thread, and using my placeholder below to put 1 pic of the latest sessions work.....

Edit #2

Should we pick one night a week for working specifically on this mini on the hangouts?

If so, what night is best?

(Obviously, this isn't any kind of mandatory thing, It would just be set up for everyone to be able to show off their work, as well as asking each other's opinions about things, as well as the "Does anyone know what that doohickey on his belt is????" type questions....)

Edit #3

For those of you who don't have, or want to get the Chainmail figure, Reaper makes this guy:

02980: Quosk Ravensire, Half-Orc Druid ($4.99)

So I am putting my place holder here....

(I am doing the Druid mentioned above.... :blues: )

(This is for ONE pic of the latest sessions work, when it starts)

Instead of one pic, I decided to place a link to my WiP, and encourage others to do the same!

As I update this post, the old stuff will move below the spoiler. My main thread is here.

Started the month by stripping the mini, cleaning some mold lines, and then priming it. Also, now actually doing the druid, and not the champion, though I may start him too.

My placeholder is here!

Orc Champion (unless I get a druid in the next week or so)

Just realized that the skull has been shaved off the chest plate. Weird... Must have gotten him used.

That's a pretty neat figure; I don't think I've ever seen it before.

I'll have to go mine the lead mountain and figure out where mine is in the next few days.

Cool, The Druid is one of 4 Chainmail figures I actually got painted back when I played.

I wonder if I have another?  It's quite possible, I mostly played Drazen's Horde and bought a lot of Chainmail.

Looking carefully under his outstretched arm, I noticed that he's actually wearing chainmail under his hide armour. I'm thinking that it's actually supposed to have been an orc shaman, but they changed the name to Druid for unfathomable reasons, possibly because he's based off of a nature theme.

There is now a poll at the top of the thread for what day of the week for our online group paint is best for folks.....

Also, even though today is the first day of doing this, we have been discussing what the next months mini should be...

My main concern for this going forward is that they should be primarily REAPER minis, and Ideally, ones that are available in both METAL and bones, so that people can paint the material that they are comfortable with....

(The Chainmail Orc Druid mini just kinda happened because so many folks on the hangout that night mentioned having them / being able to get them easily...)

My suggestion was to do

60044: Damiel, Iconic Alchemist (METAL)

89010: Damiel, Iconic Alchemist (bones)

Chaoswolf suggested doing monsters / critters, so that by the end of the year, we have a Warband / Encounter....

other ideas and suggestions are very welcome!

So chime in and join us!

I like either of those two. With Damiel, I could try some potion bottle effects, and with Norgol maybe I could finally take a stab at NMM; or at least practice my shaded metallic that I took the class in at last RCon.

A couple alternate ideas for what to paint for the rest of the year:

1) Since we started with a druid, the rest of the year could be all spellcasters.

2) Different character classes throughout the year. We started with a druid, so do a fighter next, then a sorcerer, then a thief, etc.

As for as what day is best for me, it's hard to say. My schedule is always so jacked up. Probably a weekend day though.

My preference would be humanoid monsters, more of the things that tend to get used most frequently. Bugbears, gnolls, lizardmen, goblins, kobolds, etc. Plus there's lots of them out there, in both Bones and metal.

From the Bones 4 core set, this is the subset called "Classic Horror", #130 through #135.
A take on some of the monsters of the 1930's Universal movies series fame, with both male and female counterparts. I based the Mummy on a 35x25mm base as his integral base was both scenic and rather wide and I did not want to cut it down. The others are based on 30mm round lipped bases.

I am slowly working through the Bones 4 core set. Today we come to #13, the Warrior of Chaos. I don't know what Reaper is calling this mini, if they even have a name for it yet. I imagine it would be something like "Bloodcurdle Angerpants, Anti-Paladin" or "Gruff McDuff, Evil Fighter". (Feel free to use these names, Reaper )
But it clearly is a Warrior of Chaos.

This model has the look, what with horned helmet, bulky full plate, skulls, straps, furry shoulders, heavy cloth cloak and the tower shield.
...and I was going to put a picture of a chaos warrior from the GW webstore here for comparion, but they obviously did not want me to, so that did not happen. No matter.
Did I say Warrior of Chaos? This is clearly a Champion of Chaos, what with such a massive rock to put their foot upon! Feet, even!
I had to base it on a 40mm base. Champion sized at that.

I have the higher ground! You cannot win! Also, I have a full set of Chaos Armour and all you have are tighty whiteys!

A large mini ragepainted sloppyfast in under an hour just to blow off some steam and get it off the tray it has been standing around for ages on.
Well, large mini I say. Compared to most other dragons of the Bones kickstarters, this one is rather smallish.
However, back in the day when heavy metal was king, this mini would be considered a large miniature of a dragon.

Please use the full SKU and name of Reaper minis in the titles of your Show Off threads, per forum guidelines. You can find this information on the blister card or in the online store. I also like to give credit to the sculptor in a tag, so people can find their favorites.
We have a high volume of posts generated from this challenge, which is great! But it's also creating a lot of work for the mods. Ladystorm has already urged folks to comply with these guidelines.
As an experiment, this project has been moved to be a bi-monthly challenge again, that seemed to have worked so until further notice that is our format. The longer time frame theoretically will give less stress to painting, and allow more complex jobs, and more sinister challenges.
      Reaper only? - No.
If going on vacation, can I paint a mini(s) ahead to cover that time frame? - Yes.
Are speed paints acceptable - Yes.
Can it be a mini started previously? - Yes.
      Based or unbased? - Yes.
Do minis for exchanges count? - Yes.
      NEW RULE - Size Equivilancy
(This list is subject to change as bones 3 releases)
Medium and smaller = 1 ea
Simple Terrain (plain floors, walls) = 1ea
Complex Terrain (http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/Terrain/latest/03518 or such) = 2 ea
Large (Giants and the like) = 2 ea
Huge (Most dragons, Demon Minotaur Lord, etc) = 3 ea
Bigger (Kally, Khanjirra, etc) = half of quota rounded up
      Colossal ("Tianot,") = quota
Due to the variable nature of a CAV I compare them against a generic 28mm figure and the Avatar large figure. I take height and bulk into considering if it is worth 1 or 2 figures.
If it's not in this list, it counts as 1. (not yet updated for the CAV II figures)
If you have a question on the size, please post it here, and I'll address them individually.
Much like last year, the idea is to help those of us that normally paint VERY little or not as much as one would like, to start painting more.
      You challenge begins...now!
      And Our Mantra:
If your name is missing, or you believe your count is incorrect, please PM me. Please note: to make counts easier, post in the bi-monthly thread and include the tag RPChallenge
      The objective:
To paint 52+ minis throughout the course of the year via bi-monthly quota
(each bi-monthly thread will have the quota listed as well as the master list)
      What qualifies:
      Darn near anything!
      Any material!
Shelf of shame minis from ages long forgotten!
      Exchange minis!
      Speed paints!
Armies! (Though I'd encourage perhaps something outside the army as well)
      Any Size!
Etc! (I think that covers everything)
      Year long challenge
Pick a miniature of size large or greater to complete in the Jan-Feb Block. In Nov-December, purchase that same mini and repaint in the same scheme to see direct side-by-side improvement or changes in your methods

Please see the main post here for rules, questions and general chatter, while using this thread to keep a list of links to your show-offs or show-off related comments in a single post: A reminder to please adhere to miniatures posting guidelines as usual.
All the information you need should be here.

As usual, the new format holds a "hard mode" challenge!

The Last quarter of the year 2019 because real life is a bugbear sometimes.

      Your challenge is: 18!

      Bonus Challenge: 1!
Fall! Paint a mini that has fallen over (for whatever reason) (Pompeii guy works for this too!)

      Bonus Challenge: 2!
This is Halloween! - Paint a mini using only colors that have black, orange, and purple in the name. You may also use the paints available from this year's ghoulie bag.

      Bonus Challenge: 5!
Festive feast - Since both US And Canada have their Thanksgiving in this time bracket - paint up a mini (figure or terrain) to have some food being presented, if you can do a drinking vessel to be painting like a full glass, even better!

      Bonus Challenge: 4!
For-lack-of-a-better-idea- December 15th is national Cat Herders' day! Paint a tabaxi, or any other mini featuring a feline. (It's a real holiday, go ahead, look it up)

      Hard Mode Challenge 1!
Jack-o-lantern's light - Paint a mini where the only source of light would be coming from inside a jack-o-lantern. Pumpkin may be part of the mini/base or sculpted

      Hard Mode Challenge 2!
Under Wraps- Paint a mini so that anything that any non-flesh (armor-weapons-cloth-etc) looks like it's patterned wrapping paper. This is assuming a humanoid figure. Dragons or such apply the same challenge to the whole body.

As always, the game is made up and the points don't matter!
