I'm still curious to see the stats you drafted up for Sophie.

Sophie put in an appearance at the Link & Lanthorn tavern in last night's C&C Dreadmere Playtest last night.

Since I'm running generic d5 games this year I may have to get with you about the setting. Figured, keep the games running in the official setting.

Heck might even throw WBGs in there too.

I'm looking forward to seeing what comes out for the setting; it sounds interesting.

Sophie prevented one of the PCs - Sharon's Paladin of Aurellius from being lured off and eaten by a doppleganger. The many lamps and lanterns hanging in the Link & Lanthorn tavern are enchanted, one of the dweomers reveals shapeshifters in their natural forms, Sophie pushed a lantern forward dismissing the doppleganger's shapeshifting revealing it. She then ordered it out, saying this is the second time she'd evicted the creature and she wouldn't do it a third.

The players all fell in love with Sophie.

Ya never know, there might very well be a big honkin' map. ;)

All this talk of lakes and rivers caused one of my Pentels® to suffer a deadly bout of inspiration, and then this happened:

Just realized that though we got some of the Dreadmere townfolk and Sophie and some scenic items... we never saw anything on the book or pdf in the Bones IV Kickstarter.  Was really hoping we would see more on the setting...

Oh... There's a pretty good chance of that. :D

Neato! Thanks for sharing.

Just so there's no confusion. This isn't one of the official Dreadmere maps. I had those with me and showed 'em off to those playing my official RC 2016 events. Hey ReaperRon want me to share the map? :D

I had forgotten I posted that. It could be a detailed view of Dreadmere consistent with this map:

Dreadmere_WIP.jpg

My map has a lake that could be Terrapin lake. It puts Dreadmere at the point where  some waterways converge, (but it has one extra stream). It sort of assumes the entire area around the lake is swamp.

Yours no doubt differs a lot.

One of my maps and not the most up to date. There are a few added details. Also Dreadmere actually straddles the Oxwash River but it looks funny parked in the middle of the flow.

Since there's some buzz I figure it's time for some info...

This years official RC 2017 rpg events will follow the format from the previous years. There are five adventures, each one 3 hours long, one for each faction and an all-faction mashup adventure. The adventures are very concentrated, so 2h 50m of intense bare knuckle action and adventure.

As always the four faction games are themed to the events going down in Dreadmere this year. The four factions consist of the Duskwardens (good), Bonehenge Covenant and Knights of the Maggotcrown (neutral-ish), and the new contenders the River Widows (evil) replacing the Disciples of Cthon. Make no mistake, the Disciples are down but far from out.

Each game has room for up to 6 players except the all-faction mashup which is 8 (two from each faction). I have been known to seat 7 in the 6 player games so come early and I'll do my best to seat you.

Each adventure will be run twice and no more. My schedule is packed with most days I'm running 3 events for a total of 30 hours over the course of the con.

NOTE! You don't have to match your faction to the faction being played so it's fine if you're a Duskwarden playing in the River Widows. Enjoy! Also, there's no faction sabotage so a Maggotcrown playing in the Bonehenge Covenant game isn't an agent provocateur.

As far as system goes, I ran Dreadmere with D&D 5e last year, I like to keep things fresh so this year I'm using a tweaked Castles & Crusades 6th printing. Those of you who love D&D (any edition) will have a lot to love.

More information will be posted over the course of this week and weekend along with a few surprises.

So this will be my first ReaperCon, & when reading up on the factions the site says that you can choose when your register for the Con,  but when I signed up & bought by ticket, I don't recall being asked. Is this selection made when you arrive & check-in to pick up your badge?

Had a splendid and highly entertaining C&C Dreadmere playtest tonight so I thought I'd share.

The PCs were exploring Stonegraves - the Wraith King's ruined keep. It's a blighted stretch of ruins extending for acres in the middle of the Dark Moors. Following the cataclysmic battle with the archmage Seneptus of Lisharn, the ancient keep of iron and basalt was annihilated. Centuries later peril-seeking adventurers flock to the locale to test their mettle and for most, meet their dooms...

The PCs were investigating one of the secret entrances to Murkillor's dungeon - a mucky sunken depression filled with tumbled ruins covered in vines, thorny thicket, and moss. The center of the depression is occupied by a few pillars surrounding a deep murky pool which turned out to be guarded by an irritable Water Weird.

After many a round in which various PCs were pulled from their feet into the Water Weird, they managed to lasso a monument and bring it down smashing the elemental-kin. Sadly, the PCs weren't able to find/activate the secret door. The ruckus attracted a band of clod-goblings hunting nearby which were horribly killed by the restored Water Weird (after being brought to 0 hp the water weird collapses and reforms in 2 rounds). As the surviving goblins retreated they left behind a badly treated and malnourished wolf which Rose's ranger fed and began taming.

The suns were setting fast, the PCs retreated to a campsite in the ruins - a hollowed out tree. The sentries spent the night keeping hungry stirges at bay by burning special herbs. I have an extensive list of herbs ranging from the medicinal, to the practical, to curatives. The PCs discovered how to activate the secret door but they needed to acquire a magical ring worn by Patches, the Wraith King's groundskeeper. Patches is a very tattered flesh golem. The PCs employed a magical ring as a lure and a small but powerful beartrap hidden among a crumbling rock formation. Patches, who seems to have the ability to detect magic at will, reached into the stonework triggering the beartrap, nearly severing the hand with the ring. Once the hand was caught in the trap, a heavy block and tackle completed the amputation and the PC hiding nearby rush to the trap and made off with the severed limb. The PCs executed a few nerve-wracking hand offs (har har) to confuse the enraged brute. Note, the PCs are 2nd level and they DID NOT WANT to fight Patches! There were a few missteps, no plan remains intact once executed. The golem's attacks were hampered by the loss of his limb and his frenzied mental state. The PCs managed to elude the construct and the cleric wound up with the limb, Patches' ring, and the ring used for bait (the ring of shooting stars). Now remember, this was like a relay race, each PC wound up running for several minutes chased by the golem! The cleric of Marna grew up in a keep in a large town, he didn't know one side of tree from another and he became hopelessly lost in the swampy ruins. In effect he'd crossed to the far side of the ruins and into a sinister copse of bent and gnarled trees. Alone. Drawn to the curious tree, the cleric lost his cool when the trees opened mouths and began professing DOOM!

We'll resume in two weeks. Playtests for the upcoming RC 2017 events continue.
