02757 - Gastaroth, Vampire

Greetings!

 

I've had a couple of half finished Reaper vampires waiting in the (bat) wings for the best part of last year so I thought it was about time that I finished them off......

 

The second one, presented here, is Gastaroth (the other one is Jahenna).

 

Usually, I get stuck in the same rut when painting vampires by sticking to red, gold & black. However, I've managed to sneak in some dark blue on this one to give him a bit of a regal look & I've also done the armour red which is something slightly different that I've been thinking about doing for a while now (I'd probably have done this gold in the past!). I put a green glaze on the blades to give them an enchanted look.

 

Finally, I did a little bit of sculpting on the base by adding in some smaller slanted stone blocks & grass.

Thanks! I was trying to achieve a colour that the skin might look like in the moonlight. The armour was inspired from my vague memory of the Francis Ford Coppola version of "Dracula" - at least, I think  that was the film!

The weapons are standing out perfectly with that bold greenish color.

The red armour is just a dark red base shaded by a black wash (in fact, everything on him except the skin & metallics has a black wash as I was trying to give him a dark/night-time feel). I then tidied up the base red a bit, did a lighter red highlight on the edges of the armour & finished with an even lighter red on the very tips/corners.
